What would be the best hatchback for SPL. I have been looking at mazda 323's, but I can't seem to find some under $1000, my maximum price. Are there any other types of hatch backs I should be looking at ?
thanks,

my Mazda Familia 2 door (jap version of the 323) for only like $800.00... got it from an auction
its a great lil hatch, everything that goes in it sounds great, its amazing... even my initial system sounded great in the car. I've spend a grand or two on making mine nicer on the inside and am now tackling the exterior but they can be turned into a ****in nice car for not too much money....

I'll have to vouch for the RA40 Hatch for no wall/street.. I got one just like Hardons and yes the cabin gain is pretty good. Should be able to pick up one up for around $1000. Registering a $1000 rust bucket RA40 would cost you at least half what you paid for it!!
You will also have to put a decent alternator and battery as the standard ones are pretty much **** especially the alt. It has plenty of space as the back seat folds forward and there is also quite a big spare tyre section dying to be used up as box space as well. One thing to note that the boot seems quite shallow.... eg. I don't think it can accomodate a 12 incher if you want the sub to face front or the back of the car and have the box remin below the window line. Most likely you will have the subs pointing toward the roof.
The 626 is looks to be another good option same kinda interior shape as the RA40 liftback.. so in theory should be good too. Might have a better boot depth too!!
As for the best hatch to use the CRX has been proven to be a killer for SQ and SPL setups.

I agree with Hardon. I have an 82 RA60 Celica (Wedge Shape) and we stuck in a 10" kicker Comp and it sounded heaps louder than the 12" kenwood in my mates VL and the same kicker in the little alfa 33.
