ok guys i have 2 Kicker S10L5 solobarics on there way, anybody have a rough idea what spl you COULD achieve with 2 subs in a 2cft internal volume sealed enclosure and 500 quality rms per sub? I know there are many contributing factors but someone may have a rough idea.

2 10" L5's, with 1cuft each?
and 1kwrms total, in a the boot fo a VL?
my guess is low-mid 130's...

yeh 1cft each max, its more for sq with good low bass hence the sealed system , but i will be curious to test spl once installed, depending which way i go with my amp/s i may get a 1ohm monoblock , then the subs would get nearly 750rms each which should be alil better, was also wondering if i face the subs like 2-3" from the back of the seat would that increase spl or just stuff the bass up being so close....?

Is there are metal firewall behind the back seats or not? If there is a metal firewall, then I wouldn't recommend having the subs that close..

yeh there is, i was goin to cut it out like a T already got the centre armrest cutout , so was just goin to widen it just past the width and height of the subs and fire the subs through the foam in the seats?

I'd say low 130s and i'd be happy with it. but you may get less, may get more. Commodores arnt normally good with bass so thats your weakest link....

Cutting the firewall is illegal as its a strutural member of the chassis and is load bearing. Same as the parcel shelf. If you cut it, it needs re-inforcing & engineering otherwise the cops will defect you for it.
Anyway.. an option would be to remove the rear splits and have the ports firing thru the hole they were mounted in. Build the enclosure with external ports (ask BassA for more info) and have them firing thru the rear shelf. This should improve the output quite a lot. Especially if the boot is completely sealed from the cabin except for the ports coming thru the rear shelf.
If you find yourself craving the splits, stick 'em in pods and mount them on the rear shelf.

Hmm yeh sems to be in the 130's which is still plenty loud if its good quality bass and not just a mush of blurbass, BTW BlackIce have you created a new box mate sealed system with ports..lol i decided to go sealed as the general thoughts areb that the 2002 model S10L5's are not really suited to being ported for sound quality and tight bass. I also have the centre armrest of the backseat cutoutof the rear seat firewall which is prolly about 7"wide and about 9"long to let the sound through the cabin, might just be trial and error and try the subs facing the backseat and facing the tail lights etc.

You want options. I give you some. Take my advice or dont, but dont mock me for trying to help you get better SPL in a car thats not suited to it.

Nah peace Blackice i wasnt mocking you at all mate i had never heard of that sort of port arrangment for a sealed box. So if i have offended you then i apologise i meant by it at all, and advice i get on here as i value it alot being a newbie to the upper level of performance and what not!! Sorry Man.Oh and btw BlackIce ur idea about having the ports through the split holes in the parcelshelf is brilliant, i never thought of that and better yet i can make a box wider coz there is no speaker magnet poking down and might set about making a spl level box for 2 10's and have the kickers for sq and rumble.

I generally don't recommend putting ports through the parcel shelf..
The exceptions - it can be a good idea if you are using a bandpass box..
Actually, it can be a good idea in some cases - to use a really high tuned 4th order bandpass box (if tuned high enough it will sound like a sealed box anyway..) Have the subs firing forward into a 0.5 cu/ft chamber (0.5 cu/ft per sub) and then have a port *as short as possible* and as large as possible through the rear shelf.. Ie with a 6x9" hole, try to make the port length as small as possible - only the thickness of the wood.. Also the larger the port the better..
If you want SPL and only SPL then you'd use a much larger vented chamber and tune much lower.. - I think this is the best way to get max SPL in cars that have firewalls between the boot and the cabin..

yers im still figuring out which amp system to run for the 2 kicker squares, ive pondered using my 2 cadence Z1000's rated at 400rms at 13.8, do you think these amps would power the kickers good enuff in sealed boxes? I reckon spl wise anything over 130db would be great for my type of car what do you guys reckon?

yeh mate 130 in a vl commy with a sealed box would be great.. but no matter what it's never good enough

yeh aint that the truth, btw would there be much if any spl difference if i went for .66cft volume per sub instead of 1 cft?
