$2000au

Im tring to work out what subs to put in my car.
DD
your crazy ...... anything with DD on it will GO BOOM BOOOM BOOM !!!!!!!!!
CHIEF
and this is within your price range? perhaps start with something like the 3515.
morgish
the good BOOM BOOOM BOOM !!!!!!!!!
or the bad BOOM BOOOM BOOM !!!!!!!!!
??
morgish
hey CHIEF , just realise you are on the gold coast too.
WHere on the coast are u?
Bodyjar
If you can afford these, and afford to power them, then go ahead!
DD Phil
The 9900 series are one of the best subs on the planlet without doubt.

They will take over 3000Wrms all day.

Even the way cheaper 3500 series can take all the power of a D2 or similar, they are incredible!

hardon
So is the only "realworld" difference between the 3500's, 9500's, 9900's is it really only the power handling, or a hell of a lot more to it than that?

Like better quality materials, different baskets, motor structures, more magnets, etc???

Using my single 200DHC (2000RMS @ 1OHM?) would, say, 1000 WRMS per sub (3500,9500,9900 - either or...) be too little for any of the Digital Design products?? As in would there still be more amplifier power required to really get them going, or would 1KW be enuff?
Marc
I can hear your brain clicking from here Timmy
DD Phil
Even the $349 2012 uses the same quality parts and hand-made consctruction as the 9515. This is what stands DD apart from the rest of the world. They don't make stripped down, baragin basement woofers. Every part used on every woofer is the best of it's kind available.

We're talking the same motor design, voice coil materials, spiders etc etc

As for power, even the 2515 15" ($649) will take 1000W all day, that said they are mega efficient. They will play loud off very little power.

Even time we try something new, these subs keep on surprising us! Forget what you thought you knew about subs!!

LOL

Hardon - the 9515s and 9915s have both more useable excursion (not to be confused with linear xmax) as well as more motor strength. (resulting in a lower EBP - which in simple terms will allow the speaker to push more air through the ports in a larger (relative) enclosure.. Unfortunately if the EBP is too low then it is hard to get the speaker/enclosure to have a deep response without the response being peaky - but sacrifices must be made for SPL..)

1kw will still work fine, but the 9515s and 9915s can handle far more for SPL burps..

wow, all good reports.
Just some questions.
1) is this a spl sub?
2) what db should it pull in a 323 hatch, old boxy one.
3) The sub is more flat then normal subs, how can this be better?!?!?

1) yes, but will sound VERY good in the right enclosure...

2) How much power will you have? size box you can fit? how many batteries? And in a wall? or no?

Wall: 160dB
NW: 150dB All depending on power of course...

3) How do you mean flat?
morgish
maybe its just me.
but it looks flat :S
160db!!! CRAZY!! i love dd!
Ill get as much power as it can take.
batterys, there is room for more.
and wall?
how do u mean?
ill post a pic on now i -THINK- it should be, tell me if im wrong, im allawys open to constructive critizem
morgish

sorry about the crappy drawing.
ask me if u dont understand anything on it.
Is that a wall ?
inprovements, suggestions?
CHIEF
bear in mind you will need to budget around $5k for amps to push 160, and no thats not a wall.

thats a wall, behind the b pillar (front seats). I reckon you could probably do it all for under $10k (batteries, install, amps, subs etc)
morgish
FARK!!
$10k for 1 sub setup
WHere on the gc are u?
CHIEF
Benowa

ok silly question but i have to ask
i have eq 200dhc which dd sub would be the best for spl ??

or i have 1000rms @2ohms x 2
which dd sub would be the best for spl
Clarkie
I think the 3500s is all that most people need unless they have over 1500rms per sub and the 3500s well take that for burps anyway. Some guy in the states put 2 bd1500's(round 3kw) on his 3500s with no probs.
I use a 3512 in my suzuki,on the weekend with 1 1000w amp in ss 1-2 did 145.1db on new mics. The driver seams very controlled at that, cant wait to get more power to it

Don't want to stir anything up, but merely point out that DD are NOT a CAA Sponsor. Purely an Advertiser, there is a difference. Just to set the record straight
NUTTTR
PORT!
BIGW
i love that box clarkie
Clarkie
Thanks for feed back guys
The first box I used was a spare out of the laser(pic below)which res at 62Hz in suzuki 142.5db approx.
The larger box was made for 4 12" kenwoods that didnt happen,so I pulled the top off made another for the one sub and cut a hole for the port in the back crx style(port screws in can be changed if needed)Tested on local mic tuesday cut port back 3 times too much made another tested on thursday cut back once and that was it.Plays much lower(res 47Hz)than first box and F#*KEN cranks for single 12".Would like to try a box round 4.5cuft but run out of time,my friend has a xtr2400 now that well get it cranking.

Not bad for a sub like that....

I was just looking at pics of the sub and it looks like DD have used the same die cast 4 spoke BASKET (excluding motor, just the frame)as my SPL160's, whis is the same basket as with a few other subs I've seen over the years.....

Alot of subs do. Beyond, RE, Adire, Rockford(use the same basket) as custom tooling for the baskets runs in the hundreads of thousands(US. And for all the above companys it is just too much and would raise the price on the woofers even more. So generic baskets, surrounds, voice coils, spider etc are used. But can be put togeather differently such that they all are different. Just because they built using same parts don't make them the same
Bassaholic
Them and about a million other subwoofers use those baskets..
DD Phil
There's a ot of versions of those baskets as well. A lot of companies use the cheaper copies.

QUOTE: "generic baskets, surrounds, voice coils, spider etc are used"

Not on DD, every part is custom made for/by Digital Designs. EVERY woofer is 100% hand assembled in their factory.

A lot of those "other" companies have woofers built for them at places like TC and just slap their own stickers on. Again NOT DD!
