Unfortunately it isn't..
As far as cheap handheld meters go, the radio shack ANALOG meter is pretty accurate, but of course it only reads up to 126dB...

mmm how much do they cost ya... and have u got a link... would just be nice to test the car and stuff and would be a semi handy tool to have... for 8inch comps and stuff... allso can u calibrate these meters to read like -10 is that even possible? or does that just not work... wat if u put sometin ova the mic so it don't pick up as well.. i would just want a mic that would be consistant against itself...

I've got the Jaycar meter with the other meters (light, temp, humidity) included in the product, it has dopne fine for me when tuning ports, finding resonant freq, comparing different settings with a reference volume.
I think it cost me about $180???

Can someone tell me how im meant to find my res. freq with a meter when the bloody frequency changes with volume??????
My volume control on the head unit goes to 42 or something... At 15 the peak is 49Hz, at 20 it's 51Hz and then any higher is over 130dB and the meter says overload

yes this is a regular thing. in my car the higher the volume the note seems to get lower and lower. only real way of finding your note for sure is full noise testing.... infact the best way to do any tuning of your system is at full noise, but unfortunately not all of us can afford termpro mics and the like
I chopped up a bit of ear plug foam and sticky taped it to the end of my DSE meter... it makes it read about 5-6db down so when it reads 130 its actually about 135-6. which still isn't particularly helpful but closer the testing to full noise the better.

cheers ... hehehe calling someone hardon and not laughing is a pretty big step for me Mine looks almost identicle but it has more features and I think was about $60 or so more than the basic one. But the basic one will do the same thing, just without the other options.
I reckon they are pretty good.
