Im after a bit of help with the box for one 10 inch kenwood db+ sub. Current box is 2 cubic feet and is tuned at about 35 htz (or 32htz, I can't remember). It's in a 94 Ford EF Fairmont sedan and is powered by an alpine mrv1000 (2x100 watts). It has done 141.1db at a recent autobarn comp but i think its got more. If anyone has any ideas on what box size or tunning frequency would be best suited to my EF they'd be much appreciated.

Have you played with box positioning? sometimes there's 1 or 2 dB just in that. And I'd tune it higher, go up to 40hz and see what happens... How big is the port?

im with bj ... tune to box higher and move the box around a lil bit .

see if you can flare the port(s)

The port's diameter is 3 1/2 inches and I have tried rear loading and corner loading the sub with exactly the same db. Would a bigger box help? If so what size? Would I be better firing it into the boot like some of the other sedans i've seen?

Is the Kenwood silver cone DVC model?I use the 12"DVC model and have found they dont like big boxes at all.I run 1.5cuft each for the 12" so you could try a smaller box say 1.2-1.4cuft and tune to suit.I dropped almost 3db by using larger boxes.I'm not saying its 100% but a good starting point.

just as a note E series falcons often peak arround 47-49hz

Thanks for the info. It's the blue cone single voice coil woofer (big db+ logo in the center, it's the older model). This may sound like a silly question by if my car peaks around 47 -49hz how do I work out what frequencey to tune my box to for the maxium spl. With the existing box and ports (tuned at 35hz) it was loudest at 48hz (on a bass machanic test tone cd).

Tune it to 40hz and go from there

With that sub in 2 cubes, I'd be tuning around 38hz to peak at 47-49hz

I'll try some 38 and 40hz ports to see what goes the best. I'll also try 4 inch diameter ports to see if that makes any difference. Would a 3 cubic foot box be too big? I have one lying around that used to have a 12 in it. That I could try as well.
