What does turning this up do? I can't find it in the manual.

I can tell by turning it up that the volume of the subs get louder, but does it increase the volume at certain frequency like bass boost?

Long story short, should I have this cranked up all the way when doing an SPL comp?

It controls the output level of the sub's pre-outs in proportion to the main channels (front & rear). Its not a BASS, LOUD or BBE control, just controls the sub pre-outs voltage.

i was wondering the same thing too. So am i right to say that setting it to full gets a 4v preout voltage or something? With my gains set sensibly would maxing it be a viable option?

Up till now i thought it was kind of like a loud function except it only affected the sunwoofer frequencies. Funny thing is making the level higher doesnt make the bass sound worse, only louder. Its like +10 right now in my system.

I believe Sub-W @ full = same output voltage as the main channels pre-outs.

If this is the case anything under that is less than the mains, and it changes in proportion to the volume of the main channels.
So a setting of +10 (of 15) = 2/3rd's the voltage of the main channels.
So if the main channels are cranking 1V, the sub channel is cranking 0.66V.

Then insert theory about volume level and pre-out voltage here.

if it's the same voltage as my deck, having it set on max(+15) will give you a voltage of around 4.3. sub control on minimum (0) will give you a voltage of around 2V.

so having the SW setting to something low would have an affect on SQ has the pre-out voltage is lower?

For SQ's sake wouldn't it be best to have it set at something such as 14/15 or max at 15/15 and then lowering the gains?

but then lowering the gains to something very low would also affect SQ wouldn't it as gains = sensitivity of the amplifier?

Just to post my opinions.

based on the advice from this thread, since the level was for preout voltage, i decided to give maxing it at 15/15 a go, anf lowered the gains on my amp to compensate. I managed to take almost a quarter off the gains dial with the sub level at 15, whilst delivering bass at about the same volume as before.

But the delivery of the bass notes themselves have improved tremendously as a result. its hard to say if its because my amp was working at a lower gains level or because the sub preout voltage increase had something to do with it. But i'll say this, the bass is a helluva lot cleaner than it was before, and sounds noticably better as a result

I am quite happy with the result. SQ improvement was instantly noticable and very welcome to my setup. Maybe some of your guys can give it a try and see what comes out of it.

but this is an SPL forum so......

defintely leave the sub level at 15 and adjust the gains from their, much better IMHO
