well you cant really quantify sq anyway as it is a relative (and personal taste) thing, so on that basis it's impossible to measure best sq per dollar
however, if you give us a price range, and i suppose your listening tastes people can recommend good value splits in that range.....

Also you wanting to run active or passive? If it's active buying tweets/woofers from specific manufacturers may give you better value for money, ie scanspeak woofers, vifa tweeters etc.

The JL VR splits seem to be good to my ears for a very reasonable price. Go and check them out maybe?
Active is definitely not the best Bang for ur buck SQ wise. You'll need a seperate amp channel for each tweeter if u wanna go active.
Passive is definitely the way to go, depending on how much u have to spend theres prolly alot of differenet splits available. No one split is the best else everyone would buy it.
In my opinion around $1000 is where u get the best bang for ur buck. Example a $2000 set of splits still sounds better but not as much as a $500 set for example.
Of course the more u spend the better the sound.

yeah i agree. ~$1K is where it's all at. you'll get some excellent 2-way splits for that.
and to improve significantly, you'll need to spend around double.
