Has anyone had a chance to hear any being run actively?
I know Boston have have gone to alot of effort to get the x-over right for these new drivers and that they are at least half of what we hear when listening to them.
I want to run my next system active though so that I can get better dynamics and tuneability. I'll be using the active 24dB Linkwitz Riley x-overs in my ZX-475Ti PG amp.
So, anyone hear them run this way?
Comments?
Know of someone running them this way but you've not actually heard them yet?
Please pass me their e-mail as I wouldn't mind talking with them.
Cheers.

They sound great with their passives, dont know why you would want to ruin such a harmonious duo

i agree, Z6's are expertly tuned by the engineers, don't mess with their good work

it is highly unlikely you can better them.

They do indeed sound amazing as a passive set up. I can imagine that they'd sound even better bi-amped like home systems do sometimes.
Thanks for the responses.
running a system actively is absolutely incredible when it is done correctly
however setting up the tweeter for the setting you want is a nightmare
sittng in front of an oscope twisting the pot to get the correct test setting for your tweeters is a pain in the ass
the mid position doesnt matter just change it until you like it...
but it takes forever
that is why these decks with the on board active x-over are easier to use..
like the alpine 9815/13
clarion z9255
pioneer P9 processor
and old school stuff pioneer odr & p1r, sony xes and 4000x, rf symetry/epx exp2

means that I may end up again running a passive system with the Z6's after discussion with the Australian distributor and info from Boston themselves (along with help from here of course).
It has served to confirm what I believed deep down anyway.
I will bi-amp things though in an effort to squeeze every little bit of value out of them.
yes good idea for now
active setup isnt all that cheap
if you can afford it ....it really is worth it
but the cost is double plus it helps to have a more useful crossover..the one in the car amps are just way too hard to use, this is where the deck x-overs truly excell
good luck

yeah boston generally discourage active setups, they say it plainly in their FAQ's - they spend months on the crossover for just one pair of speakers, and to not bother playing around. that is why they will not give out crossover points or slopes.

I will be running some Z6's in an active setup in the near future, so if your not getting your stuff for a while, i can let you know how they will sound.
Some of the parts in my system
Deck - Alpine CDA-7696R
Processor - Alpine PXA-H700
Front splits - Boston Z6
Front Amp - Audison VRx 4.300
(I've already got the deck and processor, and i have ordered the amp and speakers)
If you live in sydney maybe i can arrange a time for you to listen..etc?
(Just keep in mind that it may still be a lil while off before i get it all installed)

That sounds good.
I don't have everything yet either. I've got the head unit, PG 475Ti amp, and subs. I've still got to get the speakers and another Ti amp plus all the install stuff like cables, sound deadening, custom sub boxes, etc.
So, I'm still a little way off too.
Thanks for the offer. I may take you up on that.

I'll be in NZ for only a few more months and then I'm home again. Yee har!
Things'll happen pretty quickly once I get back.
