Hi

Well next week i am buying a Tru Tech T4.65 and about a week after that i will have about another $900 to spend.

Now my system will be

HU: Pioneer 6450
Front: Boston Pro 6.5
Amp: Tru Tech T4.65
Sub: Xtant X104

Now what would give me a better result, upgrading my headunit to an Alpine 7998 or adding a Tru Tech T2.100 for my sub and bridging the T4.65 for my fronts and eventually runnung them active?

Would be very interesting to try the Boston Pro's off a Tru F1B, set up with an rta.

Much as I am an Alpine HU kinda guy (love my 9815), I expect from a results perspective, the extra amp would give more headroom in the system and be more benefit.

Indeed, go the extra amp, just ensure that your next purchase is another HU. That looks like a very nice system you got going there. dirol.gif

i agree, for best bang for your buck, go the dedicated subamp.

however, can you not allow for this NOW? that is, consider going with only a nice 2-channel for the front splits...buy a 2ohm sub (rather than 4ohm) and get a quality monobloc amp (that would typically produce the power you want driving 2ohm instead of 4ohm).

if you plan it this way, it'll probably be better in the end. especially as a monobloc subamp is going to be significantly better than a bridged 2-channel.

oh, the idea of running the splits actively would be a nice option with the 4-channel. so there's merit going with that amp as you plan. not sure how easily you can set it up actively (ie: might need additional active xover).

...then the HU. smile.gif

I like Critter's sugestion of the F1B - if you decide to run one of those later on, you might not want to upgrade your HU smile.gif

But, yeah go the T 2.100 smile.gif, and with the RN1 you can control you sub from the dash withouth having to push a few buttons on the HU.

i have boston pro 6.5's up front, and found they quite like the effect of bridging - they are rated to 400w and in my experience, produce tighter and more pronounced midbass weight, along with endgier attack all round, when fed more power (mine get about 150w). the top end also seems a little smoother.

so id vote for getting a dedicated sub amp and freeing up more power for the bostons smile.gif

ok i have a new decision

WOuld i be better getting the 2 amps again - T4.65 & T2.100

or would it be better getting just the T4.65 and upgrading my boston pro6.5s to Z6's?

depends on where you think your system is lacking.

if you find that you have more than enough subbass with the xtant powered off the 4-channel, then consider upgrading the front splits.

if the sub is a little lacking, then go with a dedicated subamp and give it some kick.

if this is only part of a gradual upgrade path, then i probably doesn't matter which step you take first.

the thing is, none of it is installed sad.gif im waitin on my new car first

At the moment i have an MTX 6000 sub in the car wit only 150wrms and am very pleased with the amount of bass, little to much sometimes.

The xtant sub is in the mail, and i am pickin the T4.65 up on Monday.

Its a hard decision

if you can be patient enough to wait then that'd be best. biggrin.gif laugh.gif

otherwise, i think i'd be going for the better splits. it's easier to add another amp later than having to sell off your pro's now and upgrade.
