i haven't done a side-by-side comparison. doubt anyone really has.

however, if you 'defeat' all the processing in each HU (ie: no time alignment, flat EQ settings, etc), i would expect both to sound exactly the same.

both are high quality. the jvc offers superior build quality, and is one of the premium products.

the alpine offers tuning features that may provide a better end-result when tuned properly. time alignment especially can be helpful. but like any form of processing, it can't make a dodgy system sound great if there's inherent probs with the components or installation.

unless you feel you need the features of the alpine, i'd stick with the jvc for its classy finish.

Shiny,

How do you come to the conclusion that the JVC offers superior build quality?, what makes it a premium product over the 9807?

As I sell and install both I suggest you check both out very carefully to ensure they meet your needs...personally I prefer the Alpine over the JVC especially for ease of use...The JVC looks nice and all and is a great deck...their engineers just need to make the deck a lot more intuitive to use

just coming back from deciding on my head-unit upgrade, Alpine units at your local car audio store should be about to be discounted heavily (my local store is 40% off all alpine headunits!) due to new alpine head units coming out in may i belive.

I have to agree with roughcactus though, I had a look at the JVC's and I couldnt work out how to get to half of the features.

ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just got my CDA-9807 a few days ago!! I think the CDA-9807 doesn't have time alignment at all as well. So only headunits are on sale??, what about other alpine gear?

Cheers.

yeh only headunits

nice machined aluminium/metal face place, beautiful-feel volume control, nice display, etc. IMO, it's much classier than the alpine.

my small 'typo' should suggest the '99' is one of jvc's premium HUs, and a cut above their more 'plasticky' ones. hee, hee, i wrote 'the' premium product instead of 'their'...

if you've done a side-by-side comparison with all processing 'defeated', cool. i'm interested to hear your thoughts on any obvious/audible superiority of either HU.

IMO, alpine HUs are still great build quality, as i've found with those i've owned. but the jvc is still better. i was even shocked and disappointed that the alpine F1 status 7990 could not even 'afford' a metal-face, but still resorts to a plastic one on a HU that retails for $4K. ok, irrelelvant; beauty in the eye of the beholder i guess. biggrin.gif
