its rated at 1000w, but i've also heard the sub is very sensitive..
so would i be fine running around 500-600Wrms to it? will it still get very loud?
or do i need around 1000Wrms to get the best from this sub?

since you're posting in the sq forum... 600rms is plenty. i've got 700 to mine and it is enough. it never gets push that hard unless i want to give a friend a back massage. for sq application... i wouldn't be surprised if 400rms would be enough. you need little sub bass for a well balanced system. but there always is the want for a little street bumping.

yeah, for daily use you'd be fine with 200~400WRMS and still have it loud.
for SPL and every last ounce of performance, you'd want over 1000WRMS on tap.

I have about 350wrms to mine now (since my amp blew) and it's ok for SQ, but when u wanna pump it, u need more... although my box isnt positioned very well, so there's no loading and it need power to get decent volume...

I've run 800-1600W into each of the IDMAX's i had.
They would pump with minimal power. And go crazy with 1600+.
They pump out such loud, tight bass, with the smallest amount of movement. LOV'EM!
Wish i'd never sold them in hindesight.

You don't need lots of power to a max.
Infact most of team ID in the USA use only 500rms.

My IDMax 12 arrived in the mail this morning!! How exciting!!
I'll be putting 1000RMS into it at 4ohm (Arc Audio 1500D)...
I figure that when you are paying that kind of money for a woofer - you may as well spend the extra $$ on adequate power, cabling and enclosure. I'll also be building a braced 1" box with internal sound deadening/fibreglass to minimise panel flex.
mmm... very happy i am...
