Hi all. Just wondering if anyone out there has used these drivers (Focal 5WS - the 5" 'subs')??? If so, how do they perform in the midbass stakes? I would probably be using 2 per door if i went with them but would want very strong bass performance. I would not have expected much from a 5", but then again they are marketed as a sub.

These wont produce that much midbass, they dont have that more much displacement over your normal 6.5inch driver.

Only reason it is sold as a "sub woofer" is that it is designed to work in a small ported enclosure instead of running in the door free air. They have a low "Qts spec", speakers designed to work in the door usually have a high "Qts spec"

If u plan on running these in the door then u'll get more controlled bass out of normal woofers designed for the door.

I was going to use them in a custom 3way, decided not to simply because got some ripper 2ways coming instead.

They are an awesome product and go fairly low.

A guy in the US used them in an focal/JL system and did pretty well in IASCA with them. Did have them in ported enclosures tho.

have you ever considered about the new 13KS from PolyKevlar range ?
ATM I'm running 130KP for my Front and running 2 x 13KS under the driver and passenger seat, with 4ch Rockford Fosgate POWER 551X and the sound is really awsome, so I reckon the new 13KS is better than the 5WS ( and you only need 0.18 cft )
but is only my opinion tho

The 13KS is more expensive than the 5WS by about $100.
Its also 5.4inches compared to 5inches

hmm, I just tought the 13KS its easier to work with rather than the 5WS, because you need to ported as the box is very small and you have to ported as well, honestly the sound is very low of the 13KS

The 5WS is recommended for 5-7L ported enclosures, however its only a recommendation remember
