i think you could do much better with a single 10"

try free air....

Spend more money on a good frontstage (ie component speakers).

6x9's sound muddy and arent really SQ components most of the time - but they are good if you just wanan get loud and bassy, and lack a sub.

Yea save money and buy a cheap 10inch sub, spend that extra money on better front speakers, most likely splits.

Then just bridge the rear channels of the amp to the sub.

Run the stock rears or $30 speakers off the headunit, they'll be more than good enough

as for any speaker/sub purchase, audition them first to ensure they sound nice to you. also compare them to as many others as possible, including those cheaper and dearer.

as for pioneer, they make some good value stuff. i particularly like their aramid cone range. not sure what you had in mind.

for SQ though, you will probably find a lot of alterntives that are worth auditioning, depending upon your budget.

coaxials or 'tri-axials' are typically a compromise in quality. pioneer won't offer anything special, but some brands offer a very high quality woofer/tweet combo with external passive xovers. for the front speakers, i usually suggest going with splits/components. this will allow independent mounting of the tweeter for better imaging/soundstaging if you can angle and position it optimally. coax's tend to fire straight across from the doors at a low height, if not into your ankles, so the high-range frequencies will sound like they are coming from down there rather than up high where it is preferable (more lifelike).

consider a 10" sub suited to small sealed boxes. they can suit boxes as small as 0.5~0.7cuft which is quite small and wouldn't consume much boot space.

if not, then sure, something like 6x9s may be an option.

great help guys, ill take it all into consideration.

in a small car theirs no need whatsoever to spend money on rears, just get some powerful front splits 75wrms up and give them power, and a 10 is ample for your needs smile.gif
