Guys just a quick question regarding front stage options. Dynaudio system 240 vs Alpine SPX 177A. What are the pros and cons of each. I've searched the net and can only find positive reviews of both. I will be powering from the front channels of a SRX3, which from memory is about 65 watts. Yours experiences with either of these would be appreciated.

Both are great pairs of speakers...although there is a pretty big difference in price between them...Dyn's are $999 rrp and the Alpines $699

I have a set of the Alpines in the board and I am pretty impressed with them especially for the price. If your in Vic feel free to bring some CD's and call in for a demo

i think you'd find the dyns are a very power hungry sort of speaker. ive had a listen to the 240s and the spx137 and their top end is of high quality - personaly i thought they were very similar.

i havent had a listen to the spx177's but im sure they are realli quite nice and smooth also, low end output im not sure of

my suggestion would be to go the alpines, they are quite a bit cheaper, and also the dyns would want more power than you have on tap

yeah, the alpine's are excellent value, verging on a bargain IMO. and they don't require lots of power to drive them loudly as eluded to.

but i certainly love my dyn's which i've used for a couple years now and can't complain. well, they will be upgraded/expanded to a 3-way setup, but that ain't a cheap upgrade.

however, you shouldn't take peoples' words for granted. front splits are the most important component in the stereo IMO, so it's crucial YOU do the auditioning and time to help decide. and go by your ears, not necessarily by 'more is better'.

Personally I'd disagree.

I've been using dyn 240GT's for over a year now and I've run them from several different amps, and although they certainly can handle immense amounts of power (I mostly used a Cadence A4 bridged - that's 300wrms per side!), I also found they went extroardinarily loud (and clean) with much less power than that. 75wrms per side from the Cadence A4 unbridged, and they still went ear blisteringly loud. And god forbid, I have actually been running them straight from the cheapest VDO Dayton deck I could find lately as I am about to sell my car, and have already sold off my other deck and amp. Using just HU power, they still go very loud, although they obviously suffer a bit with dynamic peaks in the music.

I would expect they would perform fine from the SRx amp (IMO).

Dynaudio recommend 50 watts rms or more. Personally I have run 240's off head units (not great, but not terrible, I couldn't recommend it) , 75 watts, awesome, and currently 250 watts, very awesome. 65 watts would be more than enough, in my experience.

The dyns and x-series that i've auditioned sounded very similar, both extremely good speakers. I think if you auditioned both you would probably go for the alpines because they are cheaper and sound excellent. However i wouldnt think they could take as much power as the dyns, which seem to just want more and more.

Personally i went with dyns because they were cheaper than the 3-way x-series splits that i also auditioned. Both sounded fantastic

the alpine spx-f17t might be a better comparison to the dyns

the actual biggest difference between the f17t and the 177a is the tweeter

have a quick listen on the demo board...and you will find the spx-177a are very nice.

Sorry to hi jack-this thread but has anyone had any experience with the alpine DLX-F176's - I'm considering a new system at the moment and they come with a $300 discount if bought with a CDA-9815

cheers

i've not auditioned them. it's probably better if you start a new thread asking about them. smile.gif

Thanks everyone for your experiences. I decided to go the Dyns. I will run off the Audison for a while and decide if I need them to have more power. I have to admit the SPX do sound nice.
