1.5 net should be about right for what you listen to

depends on the specs: Fs, Qts, Vas in particular.

if you can get the 'v3' specs then good. otherwise, these are off the website, but i don't know what 'version' they're from:

Fs 27.7Hz
Qts 0.389
Vas 99L

based on these, i'd go:

*2.5cuft nett, tuned to 28Hz using round 4x14" port
*sealed 1.2~1.5cuft

there's never any 'perfect' box. ported is probably the way to go though, for added low-end response. note that these suggestions correspond with ID's own:

http://www.imagedynamicsusa.com/website/te...et_idmaxd4.html

also, the DVC 2+2ohm specs are slightly different, but don't alter things much.

and, the v3 specs may be different again.

Hey,

I'll be building a 1.3 cu.ft gross box for mine - maybe a little bigger. I found that at 1.2-1.3, the woofer has the lowest group delay - minimal, but may still improve transient response. I "think" the woofer is 0.12cu.ft, so ID recommends 1.18cu.ft net.

I'll probably aim for 1.2-1.3 net, but i'll check it out in WinISD today or tommorrow.

Soon!!

Cabling and sound deadening this week, sub box next week and amps the week after (if they arrive).

I've got shieldsy's number, so i'll get around to it soon - i promise. smile.gif

thanks.

would you guys suggest going ported over sealed if i have the space?
its most prolly now gonna be running off a Ti800.1 so around 900Wrms.

hey shiny,

you mentioned this for the ported box. "2.5cuft nett, tuned to 28Hz using round 4x14" port".

now i've never built a ported box..how would i go about doing this?
do i just build it as if it were a sealed box of size 2.5cuft nett, except it has a round port? is the diameter 4", and the length 14" of the port?
where should the port be placed?

also, how do i tune it to 28Hz, or is the size + port already tuning it to 28Hz.

thanks

for ported, the quoted box sizes are usually 'net'. this means you need to ADD on the 'volume'/displacement of the port. a 4x14" will displace/take up about 0.3cuft (pi x r^2 = 2.14x4x4 cu.in / 1728 = cuft). so add that onto 2.5 and you need to build a box around 2.8cuft.

'tuning' it kinda sets the roll-off frequency. using that port and box combo will 'tune' it to 28Hz.

ID themselves give lots of suggestions. as such, i'd wait until you get the sub with its manual, which should include all the latest specs and box designs to suit.

there is a ID forum on sound domain forums. the box size question has been ask and answered many times by ID people. so might be a good start to have a peak in there aswell smile.gif
