I am looking at getting a Alpine type R sub 12in with dual 4ohm voice coils.

It will be running off a MRD-M500 amp.

Does anyone have a simler setup, will this be enough bass, I am building for SQ but would still want decent bass.

That'll be a heap f bass, but then again it always comes down to personal preference - this combo even in a little sealed enclosure in the boot of a sedan would still have you feeling the bass through your body. but then some people would double or even triple that, but that is a rough indication of what you should expect, its a fair bit of bass.

Thanks for that,

My friend has 2 PG XMAX SUBS in his mini where the back seat is (gives them 500rms each)and that is too much gives me a headache

Just after the perfect SQ setup I am thinking about getting some of those Alpine SPX-177 splits, should sound sweet

good choice in slpits. Did a set in a mirage (got 3rd at Jamboree spl) running fully active... Sounds excellent. Nicest splits I've heard in a while. Defifately recommend running fully active. Have some pics of spx's and 2 x r 12's in Lancer that i just finished if you want them.

in a hatch, a single type-R with 500+WRMS on tap will indeed be heaps for SQ. i expect you'll need to tune the gain 'low' to in fact cap the max amount of power you have cos it will likely dominate over the splits otherwise. smile.gif

ensure the box is of suitable dimension and well-constructed for best results.

I am running the same sub but off an MTX 500D with 691wrms to the sub. It is in a VXII SS Commodore so quite a large cabin. I am very happy with the level of Bass and was actually running two 12s but moved to the single 12" and dont regret it. I was after better SQ and didnt want the subs dominating the front Focal 6.5" splits

However my Skyline driving mates think there is not enough Bass and bag it out. You cant feel it in your chest so it is crap apparently. So it shows the other posters are correct it depends on what you want from the system. Although I cant imagine you would be lacking in a smaller cabin found in a Golf hatch.

I have a 12" Type R. Getting over 700wrms. In a hatch. In a small dodgy "sealed" box that NUTTER built. It goes stupidly loud, but can still sound really good when not pushed past the limits of the box smile.gif
