Full Version: Audiocontrol gear improves SQ?

I was just wondering if... by adding Audiocontrol product such as the crossover 24XS or the EQL into the system, will it increase the sound quality of the System? Which Audiocontrol gear will do a difference in terms of SQ? Thanks in advance...
Damon
Adding an outboard crossover like the 24XS would, I assume, be aimed at increasing the filter slopes used on a speaker set? This can potentially have positive SQ benefits, then again in certain circumstances it may negatively effect SQ.

For most system that already have a very good result after judicious and careful installation, with everything working very well to begin with, can often benefit from equalisation. The EQL is an analogue EQ that effectively chops up the audio sugnal in 15 stereo bands using analogue (read basic) devices, allows you to increase or decrease amplitude in any band, then combines them all back together again. The problems is the noise floor added by extra analogue components in the signal chain, as well as the fact that you've chopped the signal up in this way.

While analogue processors like the EQL can be used to great success, in the year 2004 I would recommend looking at digital EQ alternatives once your system is already at a very good SQ stage.

EQ can make a good sounding system great, but it can't make a bad sounding system sound good.

audiocontrol offer high quality processors in general, so a brand worth considering.

but of course there's other brands available.

as damon eluded to, you need to evaluate your system carefully to determine if and where it may be lacking. whilst there are complex EQs available, with multi-multi bands (ie: 30~31 bands), your system may only be lacking in a specific frequency bandwidth which a simpler 11~15 band EQ may be sufficient for (like the EQL).

it's impossible to make a judgement over the forums cos you need to audition the system in person.

however, adding processors does NOT automatically guarantee improvement.
