Hi all,
Need some advice if i should go ahead getting a Nakamitchi CD 400 or just stay put with my Pioneer DEH- P9450MP deck.
I'm currently running a x604 amp (xtant) an xtant 10" sub and front stage would be dynadio speakers.
Was just wondering if the CD 400 would improve SQ in the car or it would just make a slight difference between the pioneer deck. The pioneer deck i got is relatively top of the range it is more expensive than the cd400. But if the Nak will make a big improvement i will part with my pioneer deck.
Will just put my deck for sale if so. Advice please..........

Joa

because more than just the HU influences overall SQ, it's tricky to suggest the nak would definitely be audibly better.
of the systems i've auditioned with nak's, they have been excellent. but i cannot say the HU made all the difference.
i would expect an improvement for sure. esp as you are using high-end speakers that would 'reveal' any small benefit. you will lose the processing/tuning features but not sure how much you depend on them.
IMO, for SQ, i'd go the nak.

There will definately be a difference in sound, but whether its one you like, well, you'll just have to listen to it and see....
The problem with the 9450 is its carried over from last years line up, so its getting a bit on with age nowadays so that effects its 2nd hand pricing
Have you also looked at the Eclipse range?

Had a look at them but din really like the look of them. Always prefered nak's.
Now i just gotta find a buyer..... ahahhaa

I've got that same Pioneer HU as you and I might replace it with a Denon soon.
Any complaints on the Pioneer? Or are you just looking for something better?
not all headunits sound the same when set on flat (tone defeat on).
denon hey?
no detachable face is one big concern...so consider that if you haven't already mo

wat about comparing pioneer P9 and Nak cd400?

Mar 6 2004, 09:14 AM
IMO, when you get to compare high-end components/HUs, you expect exceptional SQ regardless. there may be slight differences but nothing dramatic.
probably like comparing a ferrari F360 and porsche carrera. both exceptional, but slightly different.
in the end, it will boil down to brand preference, availability, cost, features, cosmetics, etc.
personally i'd prefer a P9 but also DEQ processor, only for the tunability/processing.

Not a fair comaprison imo, I'd compare the P9 to the CD700. Plus if you go the P9 then you might as well get the processor and take full advantage of it.

Guess for about $1000+ a Nak Cd400 is a good deck to have. Thanx guys for all that info. Will consider what to get.

Anyone of you guys know if the Eclipse 8061 is a 24 bit deck? I am currently comparing this deck and the Clarion DXZ935 which is a 24 bit deck.
Just wondering which is a better deck in terms of functions and SQ. I reckon the eclipse look better.

Anyway, comparing these decks with the deh-p9450mp? any good?

I found out that the eclipse 8061 is a 1 bit deck so dun bother replying the previous msg.
Anyone knows how much is the clarion DRX9255 going for? or isit not in stock anymore? I'm very interested in that unit at the moment. Heard its a unit to keep but not sure if its still in stock anywhere in aust. and price of that unit?? thanx!
Cheers,

The 9255 was discontinued about 3-4 years ago...
You can get them second hand though reasonably cheap but they hold their value very well. Still awesome decks! There's one here which may still be for sale ($700):

Don't base all your judgement on 24bit DAC's as they're not always superior. I personally like the sound of the Eclipse 8061 over the Clarion 935.

cool! Guess for now i seriously gotta decide on which head unit fits. Guess I'm a very fussy person. haahhaa....
Too many choices makes it really dreadful.....
CD400, clarion DEX-9255...... now its basically down to 2 units. =)

discounting the eclipse CD8061 cos if a 1-bit DAC is selling it very short, so to speak. it's an excellent SQ HU. whilst there's obviously more to a top system than just the HU, of those that i've heard featuring this deck, they are awesome. one of the best SQ decks for the money IMO. it suggests that the DAC alone does not make/break a HU.
so worth auditioning/demo-ing one and ignore the specs and have a listen.
the clarion is very nice too. from the couple systems i've heard with it, can't complain.

Anyone auditioned the mcintosh MX 406 headunit? Heard it and thought it was pretty smooth. Good stuff. =) Not sure if its worth the cash. Any idea how much it retails for?

No idea about the MX404 but I have just had the pleasure of purchasing a McIntosh MX4000/MDA4000 headunit.
One thing i would look out for with the new gear si to see if it's actually made by McIntosh USA or Clarion Japan.

hey, if i were u i will buy another amp...this is surely more audition than just changing ur deck. Chaging deck from Pioneer (Top) u have now to a Nak400 (Middle) make less or no different.
Why not having a separate amp to run ur sub and the 604x just for the dyn. That case u have more power on par and ur system should sound better !

Mar 31 2004, 11:23 AM
No idea at all. But all i know is it won't be as much as the Nak CD700. I am not intending to spend more than 2grand. So hope its all worth while. Will get a mono amp to run my sub at a later stage.

If you look around you can pickup the Nak CD700 for sub 2k. The best price I recall seeing was $799USD for a CD700 new in box from a reputable trader on ebay.
