Just wondering what speaker do you recommend for this system:
-H/U: Nakamichi CD400
-Amp: Audison VRX6.420EX
-Woofer: a/d/s A12s
I am interested in:
-Scan Speak Revelator with custom xover using hovland capacitor.
-Dynaudio Esotar system.
-Boston Z6.
Which one?
Thanks guys.

havent heard the Z6's personally but i have heard the boston rallies and i was very impressed. as the rallies are some $1500 cheaper it would make sense that the Z6's would be bloody fantastic!!!
boston acoustics is a very reputable brand for both their full range component range and their subwoofer range.
the revelators are used on some of the top end alpine's and genesis, however they have been modified for IB (for in door use) use. In home speakers I see them used in the high end Sonus Faber Cremona...
the standard scanspeaker revelators aren't designed for IB and from speaking to a guy who has used them in US, it works a lot better in a smaller enclosure (ie. boxed).
If you try the revelators, why not use them active first and see how you go?

If i had the money and they were all the same price i'd opt for the Scan Speak Revelator package.

I have the same amp as you, a Nakamichi MB100 head unit, and am in the process of installing an Esotar system. I have used an esotec system with this setup and it beat my previous Boston Pro setup hands down. Both Esotar and Z6 are a step up from Esotec and Pro respectively, so again I would expect the Esotars to suit yr setup better.

i got 2 pairs of z6s, phenonemal speakers!!!
all depends on the ease of install, much easier with the bostons
just remember that its not just the drivers but the install COMBINED with the drivers.
i suggest getting the drivers that match the install and NOT the other way.
if you are thinking about off axis mounting in the kickpanel then maybe look at the focal utopial 3way setup.
i love the esotar but its physical size limits the locations you can use. Plus this tweeter excells when used on axis.
here is a great example. If you told me that you wanted a system installed in a custom pod in the stock door location then i would suggest the cdt braxials.

also something to note is that the scanspeaks do not like the damp and getting wet. As there a paper cone they go all mushy and soke the water up as they were not designed for use in the car just in the house were the temp is more or less constant. If you go the scanspeak route please buy some type of water repelent spray a company called 3M does it over here not sure who in your country but i would recomend a light spray of the mid unit with a similar product as they will change sound and may even fall to bits if you live somewere that they may get damp once in a while if you don't help them out someway. This is the reason alpine went to such huge lengths in redesigning the set with a woodpulp glue coated cone as they wanted theres to last. genesis on the other hand redesigned the midbass for free air doors but only coated the cones with a water repelent spray as they prefered the sound of this type of cone to the glue coated paper cones they had as an original prototype.

Scan speak is specially design for home, so I think it will be much problem if you install it in car and it will cost you a fortune to make custom passive crossover.
Esotar system got mellow sound but the problem is the placing which is one of the most important things.
Z6? A bit doubt if Z6 can sound as good as Esotar system.
making a proper custom passive crossover would require your car in the workshop with an rta to measure in car response with many days, weeks or months if your very serious about sq. Or you could just go active and save all the trouble (but ideally u'd still want a RTA).

go fot the sacnspeak man. it is the best money can buy. and yeah I have a bit of success using it at CAASQ. look at the the comp reault. my car is mitsubishi RVR. I hope this proof something. I believe this combo workbest when you cut HP at 4000 and LP at 3500Hz then if you mount everything on the kick panel then it will sound a lot better if you add a pair of ribbon type tweeter HP at 16000K on a 6 Db slope. and put it on your dash. I hope thid help.

Thats true about the scanspeak revelators....they are not designed for car audio use therefore i would suspect they wouldnt be up to the abuse they get in the car...ie getting wet, temperature changes, bumps and shakes.
Out of the 3 you listed i would go the dyns. im currently running a set of 240Gts and they are bloody amazing. I cant imagine how good the Esotars would sound.

One question.

it rains over here.
it snows over here.
we get hot days and then sudden cold days.
Condensation makes them wet.
if door mounted the water goes down into the door so they get wet.
if in kicks snow and water from the damp off your feet.
condensation.
the heater blower blowing air on them so condensation
dampness on matts so speakers get damp.
theres many ways if you think about it.
the scanspeak 12M/4631G00 would be a great choice for a kickpanel install
its out of the sun and no mositure problems the only thing missing is a grill.
you just need a midbass unit and a tweeter..hmmm thats a hard choice.
personally i would go for the car audio drivers for at least the tweeter and midbass. Not many home audio drivers are designed for IB use and they are not water resistant. Look at jlaudio, dd, alpine, focal, dynaudio, boston these companies all make amazing midbass drivers.
the vifa ring tweeter xt25 series has been used in car. 4ohm and relatively cheap BUT this tweeter has a few drawbacks. Not very good off axis.
I really dont know why you would want to go to the trouble of using home drivers. If you want to be different from everyone else you have made the right choice. Now on the market we have lots of high end CAR audio drivers that come with grills mounting hardware and crossovers.
here are some sets to look at
focal utopia 165W3
alpine spx-f17t
dynaudio esotar (brilliant and definitely worth the money)
here are some i have not had the pleasure of an audition
boston z6
morel (israle) supremo or elate 3ways
dynaudio sets
dls car audio

Why recommend them if you haven't listened to them or owned them personally?
Personally I think Rallies sound better than the Pro's; the price difference doesn't necessarily equate to performance
