I was listening to some rallies on a demo board running of a Gt 20 and i was very impressed, it was only around 60wrms a channel if i can remember correctly.

I currently have 2 pairs of z6s running off Alpine Mrv 1005's.

In all honesty the rallies sounded better (well in a different sort of way) The Alpine amp seemed to be alot more mellow and laid back sort of sound. Where as the rallies seemed to be sharp (not harsh) Having never heard z6s before is this just a trait of them or are the rallies that much more different sounding.

It just seems a litle concerning when $2k speakers dont sound as good as $500 lower end models...

I have noticed subtle differences between upgrading amps before, for instance a cadence amp seemed to be a little too bright. However could their be really that much of a difference??? i know what i heard smile.gif

My speakers are all tuned nicely and setup right so that aint the problem, But their was a distinctly different sort of sound coming out of the rallys, alot more in your face, sharp crisp highs, and very quick bass response, where as my z6s are very easy listening and flat in comparison.

All up, has anyone used Boston amps (particularly Gt24 and Gt28) and seen signifficant improvements? or am i just not aware of what z6s are meant to sound like?

Dont get me wrong it still sounds phenomenal smile.gif just in a different way....

Thanks for any help!!!!!

GT 28..........
gooki
And that is why people recomend auditioning lots of speakers before buying.

Sorry i can't help on your amp question.

the speakers are still good however their is a diiferent sort of good

No one can honestly say that the Rallys will be better then the Z6s!!!

So my question comes back to the amp....

Yep, it is imposible if the rallys sound better than the Z6.

It is better to change your amp with a very good one because it is a waste of speakers if you don't change your amp.

You bought 2 pairs of $2000 speakers, I think you have to spend around $2000 for the amp.

The only experience I have had with the 1005 has been when powering subs, and I must say they were a very good amp.

The GT28 however I have used on both subs and split systems, and in both situations they have provided amazing sound, I believe that you Z6's would benefit from an upgrade to this amp.

I know i'd start an argument with this one...

but i know the Alpine Mrv-1005s have loads of power and that aint the issue, but they do seem to have a lot less 'attack' in the speakers, i guess subs wouldnt have this issue.

I will be looking at two gt 28s in the future, (i have spent enough for now...)

But it still suprises me that an Alpine V12 could differ that much from a Boston GT 20 (rallies were run off that).

Then again the Alpine amp was originally a sub amp...

would the shop let you demo the boston off their board in your car?
claf_43
i did demo a single 10" in the car before i bought it, however its a small store and i doubt he'll bring in amps for the sake of it, though i could try that one smile.gif

An Alpine dealer once told me he was told at a GAIT seminar that Alpine optimised their 2 channel V12s for running subs and the 4 channels were optimised for splits.

i had a listen once to some Pro's and rallys next to each other on a bord,

hosnestly i would have taken the rallys over the pro's based on price.

the Pro's are damn good, but the rallys were not far behind, and for $300 od dollars less..........

stilll yet to hear some Z's
