On a budget.
Been looking at the JL 10W0, and the DA CM3 10".
Itll be running off a Alpine MRP350 (told you it was budget), and sidefiring from the passenger side in the boot.

i take it from what you have suggested that your budget for an amp is approx $400 and the budget for the sub is approx $250 (correct me if i have made a mistake)
on a $250 budget for the sub you could get yourself a Kicker CRV102 10''. its rated at 300watt RMS. also have a look at the Phoenix Gold subs
for the amp a the Alpine isnt too bad but a Phoenix Gold R4.0.2 2 channel amp bridged will make 400watt and retails for about $370.
there are loads more amp and sub combos out there but these are just a few suggestions.

The thing is i already have the Alpine monoblock, and its serving me quite well.
Its currently running an Eclipse 12" which just scored me 7/10 for sub bass at CAASQ MAS. Which im very happy with.
I dont need a HUGE sub at all, and infact this combo has the power to make my entire hatch flex.
However, since its also my daily driver i need a smaller sub so i can sidefire it. Also so i can experiment with some other options for SQ.

'The thing is i already have the Alpine monoblock'
sorry, my bad, didnt read the thread properly.
what would you rather, a 10'' or a 12'' sub?
what is the maximum you are willing to spend on a sub?

if you really want to get tricky, keep your 12 and change your install.
make a fibreglass box that just fits the woofer in the quater panel area, vent it to the outside of the car and use an aperiodic membrain to tune it.
youll regain most of your boot and it will look trik.
but the best bit is youll probably get an 9 or a 10 outa 10 for sub bass
(and save money from buying a new sub)

what about getting a 10in version of your eclipse?
getting 7/10 is pretty damn good!

Hmm, craigt's idea sounds VERY interesting.
Care to elaborate. Ive only ever used sealed boxes before.

I agree with craigt.
Changing you box setup and adjusting your sub/ front stage balance will probably get you a better score, rahter than just dumping a new sub into an existing box.

It wasnt dumping a new sub into an existing box.
Currently i have a 12" prefab 1.1cuft box. In order to regain some boot room i want to go to a sidefiring 1cuft box. Now, this would fit a 10" a lot better than a 12" but with craigt's suggestion of a aperiodic membrane it could fit the 12".
Not sure where to port it to though.

takai, pull up your boot carpet and remove the side trim that you want to put the sub in(preferably the side that doesnt have the fuel filler) and check to see if there is a factory vent.
is your car a hatch or sedan?
you can vent to the out side through the factory vent as long as you make it a little bigger...
make sure that the vent cant get water in it or forein object to block it( fine chook wire works)
put your trims back in and see if you have to cut it away for venting do this and get back to me
check out a car i just finished on page 2 on my sounddomain site

I run a hatch, so i dont quite think that it will work as well. I can try IBing into my wheel arch, im not sure how that will work.
Shall investigate
If it doesnt work then ill just seal the box and put a 10" in.

Yeah, well i have 350W of monoblock goodness to feed a sub. Which doesnt have to be hugely loud (hatch).
