Hi all
I am seriously considering to purchase a new head unit for my system. I have heard the Nak cd -700II before and was 99% sure I would buy it. But after knowing that the Clarion hx-d1's price is about half of the cd 700 (but have not auditioned the hx-d1), I am kinda stuck with my decision. So my questions are:
1. What different characteristics do these 2 headunits possess? For example, does one sound brighter or the other sound more livelike or smooth, etc?
2. Is the cd 700 a worthy choice over the hx-d1 if price comes into consideration, is it really a step up from the hx-d1 in SQ term?
3. And how would the hx-d1 compare to the nak mb-100 that I am using now?
Thanks for your help
regards
Anthony

The HX-D2 is going to be Clarion's flagship model for the Australasian market. It's a rebadged version of the DRZ-9255 but with a tuner that will work down here.
I haven't heard the two but have owned the Nak CD-45z and currently a DRX-9675z Clarion. The Clarion is quite a bit better in this case (and so it should be at $2k vs $1k) and I am awaiting delivery of the HX-D2 in the next few days.
So this means that I can't comment on tonal characteristics between the two you are trying to decide on.
The 9675z has a smoother, more natural, musical sound compared to the also very good 45z Nak.
Have you also weighed up the features of the two?
For example, despite the fearsome rep that the Nak has, it's very basic in it's feature list.
The Clarion though has a 5 band parametric EQ and time allignment among other things. I know that you have an EQ already but I can vouch for Clarion's EQ quality and it will allow you to simplify the system with the possible benefit being rewards in the SQ dept.
A final note, just think of where that extra $2k could be spent on where it may have more impact on the SQ. I'm fairy sure it can be better "invested" somewhere else in the car.

Hi all
Thanks for the replies. So would you mind telling me the spec of the hx-d2? And for my application, my head unit just simply transfer the signal to my EQ, amps etc. So Nak head units are good to me (thus I have no clue how to set time alignment :hehe: ).
And if I get the Clarion, I might spend the extra money on a set of esotar tweeter? Just dunno yet.......

Just go to the Clarion website and there is a product release memo there with links to the details. A Google search will also yield good search results as well with "tuns" of info.
