ok say the budget is about $1500. no more.

what is the best amp to power a single 12" sub for that price range in terms of SQ and tunability.

i will require about 1000 W RMS. biggrin.gif

Thanks

REQUIRE 1000watts??? it doesn't require anything.... and any sub with 1000watts will be entering such a level of compression that any sort of quality will be non existent.... the Brahmas aren't even that great.... with such a low BL, you'll be getting dB's of compression at high power levels, which basically means wasted power... tongue.gif

anyway... whats the sub? lol
Adrian345
well its going to be almost definately an IDMAX 12"

dunno wether to go for a 1000 WRMS amp or get anothr tru tech for consistency in the boot install. the tru tech will bridge into 600 WRMS.

I agree that it doesn't require 1000w, but some people want a lot of bass for those occasions where they want a strong bass massage.

But power compression has nothing to do with the nominal level of the BL. Power compression is due to any nonlinearities, such as the voice coil heating up and therefore increasing the resistance, (thermal power compression) as well as excursion nonlinearities (of the BL, Cms and Le)

grrr... shows how much attention I pay when someone is talking to me... lol I'mm try to remember that... but I do know the Brahmas will have a fair whack of compression.. tongue.gif

Not really, because Brahmas have fairly decent thermal handling capabilities as well as a very large XMAX. But Adrian345 says he is leaning towards an Idmax, so this is irrelevent...

I'd say you cant go wrong with the MRD-M1000. If you are a good haggler you can get it for about $1/wrms. The amps are also underrated so if you are lucky you can get one which is 1150+w rms. (I've seen one with 1220watt)
Adrian345
how do you think the tru tech 2.200 would run the idmax, it bridges into 600 WRMS at 4ohms.

Would the SQ be better or worse using the tru tech or mrd m1000
Maz
Caliber monoblock, or the Lanzar 1200D thats for sale.

Both are excellent bang for ur buck and excellent SQ.
Bodyjar
Go for a mono block rather than a 2channel, it's designed to play subs so will be better suited.

A few amps I would consider: (all rated at 1000wrms)

Alpine MRD-1000
XTANT x1001
JL 1000/1

The Xtant is pure sex, looks fantastic! The JL is awesome because it has a regulated power supply. And the Alpine is a good all rounder.

Hey Adrian,
Just a suggestion, when you get your IDMAX, hook up your existing T2.200 to it and use your other amp for your Dyns just to see if you like it. And if you are happy with it go with another T2.200 smile.gif

Oh, Btw, the T series V2 amps come in a nice wooden box at no etra cost for a limited time and don't forget to ask for your free sub remote knob!

Cadence A7+HC. They are not in the new Cadence range, but are still available from most stores. My favourite monoblock for less than $1k.

I agree with Ritz. hook the amp U have and if it goes loud enough then get another. Dont fix the problem till u have it smile.gif
I drive my subs with a measily 500-600 RMS and thats more than enough for SQ. it even does OK in SPL terms. me is skeptical of needing 1000W for SQ no matter what sub you used smile.gif
