im planning to build a decent first SQ Car. i am only 15 and am planning my system .

the car will be a Datto 1600 biggrin.gif with alpine gear.

at the moment my list is as follows....
-CDA-9015 head unit
-two sets of SPR-176A 6.5 inch type r splits.
-mrv-f340 4 channel
-MRD-M500 monoblock
-two 12" type R DVC subs (2+2Ohm)
-dual Sealed enclosure

my friend is going to get the same sort of theing but without the 2nd sub and MRD-M300. he says hes getting 6x9's to fill the rear i say hes a retard, am i right? i dont think 6x9's are very good compared to 6.5 splits... when running a sub..

Is this setup a good combination ?? and is he stupid??

cheers all

6x9's generally arent needed if there's a sub being used, but having both isnt exactly 'retarded'.

It depends on the application really. Most 6x9's (and coaxials in general) are more efficient than splits, so if they're being run off a head unit or small amplifier, they'll get louder. They wont sound as nice, but if big output is more important than sound quality and there isnt bucketloads of power on tap, then they're really not a bad idea at all.

In your case, if you're building a system for SQ, you'd be better off spending more on one really good set of splits for the front than two cheaper pairs.

yea i sorta gave him a bit too much crap to wat he deserves, the system is really upto him, what he wants it to sound like. n e way will the 2 more expensive splits at teh front sound better than the 4 type r's?? wat about SPX-177A's at teh front and SPX-137A's for rear, bit more expensive but bettter sound?? bridge the amp for fron run rear from head unit??? Sieeng as though the head unit is 4x27wrms..

when are you planning on getting all this stuff?

imo, you'd be better off waiting until a couple of months before buying the gear to plan it. many of those models you listed may not be current when you actually buy the gear.

also, i wouldn't buy gear now, and not install it for months/years. because if one component is DOA, you'll have less warranty period to get it replaced/fixed.

and why limit yourself to only Alpine???

and what's your total budget?

i just want alpine, personal prefefence. im gonna get it in like 6 months , ill change stuff then probably but im figuring out wat i need to save up to get it. but now im gonna get the 4x100wrms @4ohm amp. and. im also gonna get a 6 stacker mp3. i can get all for under $2500 put it that way with the SPX series front and rear .

It has always baffelled me why people worry so much about planning/buying sound systems that wont be going in a car for that sort of length of time...

Bizzare.
chrisjay
yea well i want to so who cares
dude im just enthusiastic .
Sev
The market changes so much in that sort of time that theres no point worrying yet.
smithy_086
dude you cant drive for over a year ? but I was the same tongue.gif
chrisjay
wat am i spose to do forget about it....?

not likely!!
gives me something to do.
sort of a hobby. itll be going in wen i get my car before i get my lisence, asap, so i can make it real nice for wen i do get it. do a proper install etc. and work on other. for the price i get the gear for, it wont be that cheap for in Aus wen i do get my lisence. from a reli in USA> Stuffs way less than half the price of here, after exchange rate etc..

so y not.
just cause i cant drive my car doesnt mean i cant listen to the stereo and do up the car either.

Indeed. Just get a good battery charger. :hehe:

im now looking into The new Alpine Type S splits from america. they are rated better than the type r's in efficiency and power rating. and they look awesome. smile.gif As well as some cheap type-s coaxials for the rear fill off the head unit, as coaxials run decent off of a head unit right, correct me if im wrong. would the Type s splits, rated at 50wrms, 250peak, handle 110wrms each or should i go for 80wrms each. (both alpine amps- MRV-T320 or MRV-T420) for everyday cranking. im also Thinking a DEH-P7550MP for the head unit and 6 stacker. TS-W2000SPL for sub, running off of a MRD-M500. The Sub will more than likely be mounted inverted to show off the size, and in a slot ported box. What do people think about my ideas on the system, should be decent for a mid price range..?
