Guys, I'm currently having just bit of problem with how my tweeters spreading in sound.

I've got 240 GT run by Audison LRX 2.500 with Clarion DRX-9255.
The staging, imaging and sound are all excelent except they don't actually sound far enough (not really spread around the car so much).

They sound loud just around the tweeters themselves not really spreading to the head room or around the interior room.

Is the problem caused by the car accoustic? I basically have a mitsubishi lancer coupe 97 model. Anyone with high SQ component experiencing the same problem with lancer coupe at all?

or maybe the amplifier doensn't deliver enough power to the 240s tweeters?
I know LRX 2.500 deliver 2x200 watts rms @4ohm but I doubt it's a
true/clean power?
because lrx is only $650 - $700 amp brand new.
Maybe if I change the amp to the VRX line or to the equivalent price gonna help me solve the problem?

or is there any other thing causing the problem?
Xristo
i run 240gts powered off a hertz h230 giving each speaker 230 rms. I have the tweeters mounted up on the dash of my 95 prelude with the mids in the stock locations. I get awesome high soundstage this way, and its difficult to find where the tweeters are positioned as they provide awesome headroom. Ditch the idea of getting a new amp, that amp is perfect for the dyns. I would play with the positioning of the tweet. My guess is you have them very close to the mid, try placing them up higher say on the a pillar temporarily to see how that sounds. You will get a wider sound stage this way and i reckon it will help alleviate the problem.

I agree with Xristo, souds like an install issue more than anything else.

Get the blue tac out and try different tweet postions and see what happens.

well, my tweeters are now being mounted and positioned on the pillars and the mids are in the stock locations.

because I'm comparing to my friends' civic, one of them has 240 GT run by tubedriver blue 475 with Clarion HX-D1 which actually good in sound spreads.

and the other one has Eton Discovery (top of the line of Eton speakers) run by xtant x604 with alpine 7998r but he run the speakers actively also I reckon the sound spreads better than mine.

that's the reason why I'm affraid the problem is actually caused by the car itself.
Maybe lancer coupe not capable for playing good SQ?

what's happening if say I get the VRX line (4.300) or maybe try to run another lrx 2.500? i.e so each pair of speakers would be bridge to each lrx 2.500

are they gonna sound much different because actually more power feed to the speakers.

i dont think power is the problem. You wouldnt be putting the whole 200wrms into them at normal listening levels

for a start, the MD100 may not handle 200wrms of the LRx2.500..

i have the exact same setup as you, and am also going active..
i will be using my LRx2.500 (2x200wrms) to run the midbass, and a smaller, LRx2.250 (2x120wrms) to run the tweeters.. that will be plenty for good headroom..
you would run 1 speaker off each channel.. smile.gif

i personally think its an install problem.. smile.gif

I've also run the exact same setup (240GT's and LRx2.500) and I don't think power is an issue at all. The Audison did just as good a job of running my Dyns as the bridged Cadence A4 I used to use (2x300wrms) and the Soundstream Rubicon II I use now (2x80wrms). IMO, it's definately due to the install.

I think you should be able to get a good soundstage in a lancer, just experiment with different tweeter positions, and maybe consider getting custom door pods to angle your woofers some more towards you.

guys I've just found out what the problem is, it was only 1/4 of the amp gain and that's what the problem was.

I thought with less amp gain = less distortion...

but infact after I tried to increase the amp gain to 1/2 it sounds much better and there isn't any distortion as what I thought.
the sounds spread, headroom, details and the clearness become much better too smile.gif

even now I don't really have to turn the h u volume too much like before and actually get better sound & the spread than with 1/4 gain in amp and turn much more volume from the h u.

btw thx for all the suggestion guys smile.gif
