Full Version: Tweeter angling

OK, from previous posts I've made I've decided that it is best to mount the tweeter as close to the woofer to avoid the problem of separation. Also I have figured out that it is best to angle the woofer to face the head of the person in the opposite seat (when mounting in door pods). Is this right so far?

My question now is where should the tweeter face? I will be mounting them just above the woofers in the door pods. Do they too face towards the head of the person in the opposite seat?

Thanks

Tweaters are quite a bit easyer to play around with than woofers. So what I do is get some blu-tack and have a play. I doubt there is a "real" answer for this question, but generally either pointed up at the middle of the roof, or at the oposite head rest. However, I have found that in my Mini, with the tweeters on the top dash rail, its better to angle them more accross the car, so pointed at the oposite head rest, then pointed just a little more towards the door.

make sure the sound coming from the tweeters is not obstructed by objects such as steering wheel columns, passengers legs, your legs etc etc.

these were particular issues i had to confront when making door pods for my tweeters.

In the end i ended up going for pods for the A pillar for the tweeters and angling them so they cross paths just below the rear view mirror.

this produces a nice high soundstage and the separation is not to bad at all. The results are better than if they were mounted just above the woofers or in the kicks. biggrin.gif

I was just going to put the tweeters in the stock door speaker locations.... they sound alright, and its easier for me biggrin.gif

i really couldnt be stuffed to fiddle around with my tweeters too much when i first installed my splits. I just have them pointing straight accross the car, they are mounted along the top of the door, almost in-line with the steering wheel. Sound alright, but i imagine if i angled them i would get a much better sound.

i think its worth the effort

oh thats one thing i forgot to add, it probably would be well worth the effort. I was going to start fiddling with my front stage these holidays, just about to end, but i got tonsilitis last sunday, so my last week was spent in bed.
