my friend want to upgrade his speaker, now after many audition,he have, he still can't decide which one is better, Dyn audio system 240GT or MB-Quart Premium PCE216, the reason why he like dyn is many of his friend have dyn,and after hear it he like it,but he's also like his current speaker which is MB-Quart Reference series RCE-216,And after hear the premium series at the audio shop, he's also love it , so maybe you guys can help, he like slow, pop, soft music, so which one you think more suitable for him?

thanks
nemesis
if he likes what he's already got, why go changing it? bar for a change of course, which is perfectly understandable smile.gif
unfortunately people can only offer their opinions on what they've heard, which im sure you realise, but that means when you're talking about flagship MBQ's and Dyn's nobody is about to (realistly) start bagging either i wouldnt think. personally ive owned MBQ's, 3 sets infact one of which was the RCE's and yes they sounded nice sure and now are living in a vt commodore. then again ive heard many a good setup with dyn's, the shiny-mobile is the premium example but thats different again as i think he's are 360's? and damo's was using the same setup, and it sounded great....but point remains the same they're both awesome speakers and he really just needs to pick whichever suits (budget/install etc) when his ears can't decide for him.
but dont forget boston, rainbow and my favourite morel if you're on the audition bandwagon

Which ever is cheapest (personally I'd opt for the dyns)
BlackRain
he likes them both
i don't think he'd be disappointed with either.

If i was in his shoes..and all my friends had dyn's, i'd get the MB Quarts just to be different (that's assuming I like the sound of both of them enough that I couldn't decide based on sound quality alone).

Actually no..scratch that thought..if i liked my current speakers (which he seems to) and i couldn't decide on a new one, i'd save the money until something better came along.

The suggestions previously posted are all valid, and since I haven't had the opportunity to own speakers from both makers I cannot comment on their sonic qualities. But I'll say this: If your friend is willing, and have the buying power to do so, why not try something else? Not saying that MB Quart and Dynaudio speakers are bad, but there are other options to consider beside those two.

Have a look at other offerings from other makers. Why not try home drivers like Scan Speak (www.d-s-t.com/scs/index.htm) or Seas (www.seas.no)? Heck, try horn drivers too, like the ones made by Image Dynamics. Want something totally different? Try ribbon tweeters/drivers as well, have a look at Swans drivers at www.swanspeaker.com. Take a look at their newest ribbon tweeter, the RT1L. They too make speakers for cars, so you might want to see it. Care for a set of drivers with ceramic or diamond membranes? Look for Accuton drivers (www.accuton.com). And the list is endless...

That is, if your friend is adventurous and willing to shell the money experimenting with different brands, matching a tweeter from one maker with a midbass driver from another maker for example. Because at the end of the day, the speaker set that your friend is deciding on is good enough, if he wants something different and/or better he has to go very much upward, entering the realm of high end audio where the budget required just for a set of floorstanding speakers can get you a brand new car, even then it depends on the car itself!

The previous poster said that if your friend cannot decide on the new one, save the money until something better comes along. Perhaps that is indeed the wisest choice.

Personally I prefer Dyn, however I think both are comparable but different.
tuneman
tough one! there both such good speakers.
the dyns have beter power handling than the quarts witch is something to take into account if he will put lots of power behind them.
the dyns have an amazing sounding top end the quarts have a very detailed vocal range and sound good with acoustic instraments and such, but the dyns sound so good as well.

if hes listen to both and carn't decide perhaps the one he like apearance wize, the both exceptional speakers and

thanks for your help guys, he's porbably gonna take mb-quart,simply because he want to look different among his friend and because mb-quart crossover look more appealing to him,he won't try some new speaker that he didn't familiar, simply because he afraid to make the wrong choice with his money (it took 1,5 years for him to collect the money),once again thank for your help smile.gif

mmm... very different speakers to chose here.

one side you have the typical distortionless/not phat yet accurate dyn sound... on the other you have a detailed, smooth and overall lovely sounding (if a little bright.. imo) speaker.

both are very nice, but i'd have my dyns thanks...

Wouldn't your prefernce for soft or hard domed tweeters determine this?

well yes and no...

while they both exhibit "stereotypes" for sound - soft being laid-back and smooth... metal being bright or harsh... there are exceptions to the rule. it really depends on the make and model of tweet, rather than the materials used. i've heard plenty of soft domes that sound horrible with cringe-inducing brightness (some wharfedales.. jensen... piega...) and lots of metal domes that sound very smooth and easy listening (the lovely monitor audio... epos... etc.. spring to mind)

Yeh I guess so I have to admit the only high quality tweeters I have are my focals and some Dyn GT40s I have to same the focals are so much in your face then the dyns absolutely tear your head off.

I love the dyn 240 gt tweets. Ive got them mounted high up on the dash, and they really sound agressive rather than the stereotypical response that dyn tweets are laid back. Go the Dyns man, you wont regret it. Their sound fills the whole cabin its unbelievable. People step into my car and think im running rear fill when im not, such is the majesty of the dyns.

System 240 GT- What amp would best suit the needs of these components, im looking to buy these??
Im looking at amp brands like, rockford, phoenix gold, alpine, mtx, kicker???
SUGGESTIONS??
HISPL
As for an amp I would suggest Crossfire, Ground Zero, Tru Tech, US Amps, Zapco etc etc...
There are so many amps to chose from.

I would reccomend you have plenty of power on tap for those Dyns so they have plenty of headroom to support them. 150wrms x2 is the sort of power I would reccomend. (Or more!)

As far as amps go, as long as you choose a reputable brand, that is well built and it has the features you want then it will do the job fine.

Personally I really like Tru Tech, US Amps and Zapco.
These companies make their amps in the USA and the build quality is amazing!

150wrms x 2 at 4 ohms or 2 ohms?
joms
4 ohms. Try out Audison. Very nice sounding amps

i reckon an Audison LRx2.500 will fit the bill nicely.. smile.gif

i *HAD* that running my 240GT's passive but will soon be running active.. they sure loved the 200wrms on tap and it was loud and clear..
then i wanted more..
BlackRain
Zapco's are fantastic amps..I'd recommend them any day.
