Hey

Ive always been interested to know how Dynaudio subwoofers rate compared to other subs as they seem to be extremely rare in car audio.

Why dont many people use them and what are they like in terms of SQ etc.

Thanks

These woofers tend not to have the sheer output of other woofers for the same price.

Really nice SQ woofers, however they don't have a great deal of balls.

great sound but not the best interms of sheer dbs. very easy to over drive this woofer.

if i was to go a high end sub with more output id go the focal utopia..that sub is a wow in my book.

the usa really has the sub market right now

jlaudio, adire audio, RE, eclipse (made and designed in usa even though this is a japanese brand) ,imagedynamics and many others.

It think the dyn subs are home audio subs and dont have the output to keep up with the rest of the system ina car environment.

the best way to put it is they are a sub for people who dont like subs.
Do you get what i mean?

Dynaudio subwoofers are not known for their output levels. They are an excellent sub for SQ applications but they are not popular due to their limited output characteristics. HOWEVER, being developed at the moment is a new woofer, and it promises SQ on a level not seen before, coupled with output levels to please all but hardcore SPL competitors. I will tell you all more when I know more myself.

hutch was your astra at the opening of setos custom car sound's new shop in dubbo just afew months ago?

does this mean dynaudio may finally also be developing some new midbass speakers and tweeters? smile.gif

My car, and myself, was indeed at the Setos opening. Regarding Mids and Tweeters, that is a definite maybe!

lol... love firm answers.

interested to experience this "newfangled" sq sub. if its as nice as everything else dynaudio, i'll have one thanks!!! (and i might have to amp and box one up to compliment my contour1.3II's at home...)

.. anyway... on topic... i've heard a few dyn subs in home applications, and one in car use (a single 12"). lovely sound, but not big sound. theres a gentleman in canberra by name of terry who has used dyn drivers in subs and they sound very nice. it would depend on what your requirements are though... if you want SQL perhaps you should look elsewhere. pure, non-spl based applications, please queue here...
