g'day.

its that time again. my car (and its system) has now been sold and a brand new (well to me anyway...) r33 gts-t is in my driveway. time for some gear to go in.

just posting to get some thoughts on the pg xs6600. what do you think of this amp? whats its sub channel like? does it sound nice?

i'm thinking of purchasing one as the basis of a simple one amp system.

it'll be powering some dyn 240 mkIIs and, maybe... a 10w3v2.

thoughts or opinions?

The XS series is indeed a nice sounding range of amps. They do tend to have rather simple/basic features and x-overs though.

If you can get one at the right price, go for a ZX-475Ti or the newer ZX-500.4Ti (no change from the 475). With these amps you get Alpine like features and flexibility like infinitely adjustable Link-Witz Riley 24db/oct x-overs, input jumpers to the third and fourth channels, LPL control (low pass level control for your sub), good power levels, etc, etc.

Let's not forget that they are a beautiful amp to listen to if the rest is done right too. I have found it difficult to find a nicer amp. The only one I could find that came close was an older 3 channel Xtant. My favourite home amplification is Musical Fidelity Class A and I would say that in car amps, these have come the closest to this magic. I won the National IASCA SQ championship with a ZX four channel amp back at AutoSalon 2002 in Auckland when most other cars were running two amps or more. It drove my Boston Pro's and Infinity sub.

The only catch...they're fan cooled, so don't spill your chip crumbs into it.

E-bay has them brand new for about US$350-400 plus shipping which is pretty darn cheap. I got one of mine from there.
Word is that the newer Xenon series is not as good.

Hope this helps.

I ran an XS2500 for a long time, it was best amp I ever owned... but yeah, had simple (but good quality) features/crossovers.

yeah i was considering a ti500.4 but i thought it may be slightly lacking in my output requirements (and dyn splits and 10w3v2) and didn't really want to spend the cash on separate front stage and sub amps.

the xs6600 seems to offer all the processing i would need anyway cos my source will be able to do all that (maybe... just maybe a hx-d2 if i can get it at the right price). supposedly the sound quality difference between xs and ti amps is rather marginal anyway and not necessarily worth the extra moolah (aside from signal processing functions...). thoughts? have you heard both side by side?

i've heard a ti600.2 and 1000.2 combination with top quality speakers/sub (boston and focal respectively) and source (cd-700) and it sounded superb... but oh, the extra cash....

i'm mainly concentrating my folding stuff on home hifi at the moment, and i don't really want to go as keen on my new car as i did on my old system (dyn, audison, 9255, adire brahma, loads of deadening, flashy install.... etc etc). just after a simple yet great sounding system this time around...

If the heady will do it all (cross overs, etc, etc) then yeah, great amp them XS series ones.

The Ti's were/are prettier and have the more flexible bits.

possibly a little more headroom vs slightly better musicality, hhmmmmm. Your call on that one but the XS stuff is definitely not to be sneezed at that's for sure.

I think you should save your dosh DjHatton,
You should get a response 100wrms amp from jaycar, use that to run the 8" sony sub that came in the car, and run some jaycar 4" splits off the stock pioneer tape deck.
Then you should give the leftover money to me so i can buy an exhaust and unichip for my wrx, so that i can really start embarressing you...

hmm.... drakul i'll think about it. i've gotta get my car to sound better than yours!... and at the moment my car is still about as fast tongue.gif

i bought the xs6600. its being sent to me now (from the states at a VERY attractive price). i'll let you know what it sounds like when i get my system all up and running!

on that note does anyone know what the rec on this was in au$ the last time it sold here? oh and who imports pg now? i've spoken to a few people that have said if it goes poop i'm up for a wrestle in repairing it.... eek.
