Full Version: Pioneer ODR / P9 - Reference Class

Pioneer Europe have released a new ODR unit, that to me resembles the P9, not sure if there are any differences. Their Reference Class speakers look the goods though...

Not sure if Australia will see them or not though.

hey marc! The ODRs are identical to the P9 series in terms of functionality

The ODR deck has higher quality components that the standard DEX-P9 so its a better transport.

The ODR processor has K-grade PCM1704 24bit Burr Brown DACs on all outputs and also features an additional optical out. the DEQ-P9 has standard Burr Brown 24 bit PCM1704 DACs(except the sub channels which i believe is 1bit) and doesnt have optical out.

its popular in asia, and scott buwalda uses them too in the US but they are pretty hard to find. I think you can get a ODR combo(deck + processor) for about 4.5K AUD, if i remember correctly, but you have to get it from japan.

What i also like about the ODR is that you can actually mix and match pieces with the standard P9. So you can use the ODR deck with the DEQ-P9 and use the DEX-P9 cd player with the ODR processor if you want. They are basically the same and offer the exact same functionality except for the higher quality internals.

Actually it does have optical out, that is the way it interfacs with DEQ-P9.

So now there is a new top line headunit in their range, anynoe want to get rid of the old and crappy P9 headunit and processor?? I'm Keen

I think it's a different optical output though Aaron. The P9 Optical out is simply like a bus cable. I don't believe it can be used with and third party equipment, but by the sounds of it, the ODR is a true digital output.

Actually you're a little mistaken there dude!

With the P9 it starts from the deck, outputs digital signal to digital input on the p9 processor. the processor itself is controlled via seperate IPBus cable. From the processor on the standard p9, you have 4 pairs of analog preouts only. So both P9 and ODR processors have digital IN for the P9 cd player signal but only the ODR has digital OUT.

With the ODR, its exactly the same as the p9, except now, at the processor, you have 4 pairs of analog preouts AND an additional set of digital preouts.

Hope i'm a little clearer now LOL sorry for the misunderstanding

if its the odr lineup then this equipment is the carrozzeria product line. The ORD head unit is the RS-D7x2 in japan and is slightly different from the P9/P9 processor. The RSP70x2 has digial optical outputs for the brand newlineupof odr amps RS-A9x or outboard dacs.

just look at the weight of the RS-D7x2 13kgs for an amp wow thats heavy.
