hi guys,

well i played around with my tweeter today with my current splits (dynaudio 240gt) and experimented with them in the kicks. was a huge improvement over the stock location high in the doors..but im still not happy with the imaging im getting.

i think its mainly with male vocals..which tend to bring the soundstage very much towards where my midbass drivers..whereas female vocals are much better since the tweeters are angled (midbass in stock position, not angled)

so..i've got a dilemma atm. i want to upgrade my speakers..and spend a bit of money on getting some custom kick panels done for the tweeters.

i think my only problem is that a lot of the midrange is being played by the woofer which i cant angle (not a lot of space behind the factory grill to angle) and i dont want custom door pods.
so i was thinking maybe i could get a tweeter that would play more of the midrange..maybe something like the Supremos? or a new set of speakers where the tweeter is crossed lower..

my options i've been thinking about are:

1) Upgrade the tweeters to Morel Supremos and run them with the 240gt midbass..i'd have to run them active..and so i would need another subamp and an activer crossover..(expensive..and i dont want to spend that much more)

2) buy a new set of speakers and run passive. this should turn out cheaper..

but the woofer would once again still not be angled.. so would option 2 offer any improvements? since the woofer will always be in stock location

any opinions welcome smile.gif

thanks!

Option 3-

Get some Compression Horns (Eg Image Dynamics) and an active x-over to go with the Dyn midbass you allready have.

Most horns play much lower than tweeters
(Supremo's are one of the rare exceptions)

Also they are much more efficient than tweeters, meaning more headroom is gained and less power is required!

What about a 3 way set of Dyn ? The ones with the 8" M.bass.

After Dynaudio speakers the only speakers that could be a upgrade would be things like Rainbow, RS Audio, Audio Development, etc.

Chris, I think you can somehow make the dyn's to image correctly. In my install, IMO the imaging is pretty good and considering we have the same type of car and splits I don't see there would be any problem with doing minor installation mod to your install to achieve better imaging.

Anyhow, for using supremos you can still get a custom passive made for your install, however, this might be more expensive than simply buying another sub amp.

I have the Dyn 240GT as well, and i will be going active with it..

i was happy with the sound of mine but wanted to try something different.. custom pods or mounting is a must with these to get the best sound out of them..
i 'was' running them passive off an LRx2.500 but will soon hook up an LRx2.250 to run the tweeters and use the 2.500 for the midbass.. i also considered getting the supremo's as well, but with my hearing disablity, i wont know the difference so im not gonna bother.. and thats an extra cost which i dont really wanna outlay..

i'll be using my head unit to run mine active, which has 3 outputs and can run '3 way' which suits me fine.. so, you dont really have to go and get an active crossover if your deck will do it..

try to utilise what you have already and play around with the midbass mounting.. if that is unsuccessful, try running active before you go spending more $$ on other speakers..
good luck dude.. smile.gif
