My car from factory has a 8" sub mounted in the rear parcel tray facing down, In my quest for a little more bass, not much i am wanting to get the old one out throw an amp in and replace with a decent free air sub....

Problem 1: i need a free air sub that is able to fit in the existing location

Problem 2: It will need to be very slim

Problem 3: does it have to fire up or is it ok the way it is......

any suggestions for a box in the trunk are not needed as i want to replace the standard sub

Thanks

I gather your car is the current shape Audi A4. You can use Morel Elate 9 woofer $299 rrp with minor mods as in MDF baffle.

you can have it mounted either way but you should check the phase as it will be pushing when it should be pulling. This is easy to do at the amp by simply swapping the spkr wires around. Some amps even have a switch to do it.

I ran 3 12s across my rear shelf in free air(infinite baffle) set up, that were inverted and not only did it sound great, I had heaps of bass that I couldnt get using a box in boot, due to my boots small size and a petrol tank behind rear seat.

Anyway if your prepared to mount an inverted sub you could possibly look at a 10 inch as well. as it wont need to fit in factory hole. You would just need to fabricate a suitable trim ring, which wouldnt be hard or expensive

Hey I was the guy that sold you that car tongue.gif Not! ahahahah

why don't you just build a fibreglass enclosure in the left rear opening when you open the boot. take out that UFO on the rear tray first to let the sound through for SPL biggrin.gif

remember this!!!!!!!! when installing the front speakers USE the factory speakers, by that i mean cut out the original 6inch cone and the back part of plastic if needed and install the speaker in the housing. you have like a tube thingie around the factory speaker so when the door trim goes back on it actually acoustically seals and no sound gets lost behind the door trim. i did my bro-in-laws doors with boston pro 6.5 running off an old alpine 3555 bridged to 2 channels instead of 4 and man you should hear the bottom end in that baby, no deadening as he is a cheap ass, but man thump thump, more thump than the UFO biggrin.gif
