What can people reccomened in 31 Band EQ's?
I was considering a 240volt one i can get to run off 12volts for about $450, but would prefer a 12volt unit. What do people reccomened and is $500 enough to get something reasonable?
I noticed Eclipse have a nice compact one that i think was only $500ish not sure if there any good? I am also happy to go second hand if someone has one.

You won't get the
a) flexibility
B) value for money
c) wank factor
of any 12v EQ that you'd get with an equivalent 240v>12v one.

...and hopefully you won't get some of the shocking turn off thumps that Kittans Race AC-23 active crossover has either...stick with 12volt gear uless wank factor is very high on your list of priorities

You mean Rane AC-23, it comes down to the quality of the 12v powersupply conversion I think

The new Audio Control digital units have to be the best around. Dual-mono 30 band EQ and 3 way crossover for just $899, they also make a 6 channel 30 band EQ!

I have used the above one extensively, and found the "digital" operations very fiddly, tedious and overall not impressed compared to an analog type setup where you have all the bands in front of you. The menu is a bitch to navigate and you can't change bands and gains quickly.
I'm talking merely from a tuneability point of view. I'm sure once setup they are great.

Sliders definately aid the testing and tuning task.

Wank factor is not a concern for me, just want a nice functional EQ that is simple to adjust, sliders or dials etc... Looks like i have been offered a nice second hand unit that i think i will go with.
Thanks for the input

You should be able to get a pair of Audio Control EQT's for that price, second hand of course. I got mine for $400, in perfect condition.

I've got a photo of a pretty smily shape, and I just copy that to tune... that's the way to do it isn't it ?

The highest RTA score I ever obtained was 37/40 (near perfect), that car had no EQ at all.
It did have:
Dyn tweets in kick
Dyn 5" mid in kick
Dyn 8" in door (with AP mats)
MTX Black Gold 10s in rear quarters
MTX Black Gold 15s in boot.
As you might expect, it was run fully active, thanks to six 2x150Wrms amps.
To this day Ben's is one of the sweetest sounding systems I've ever heard.

Black Gold? Now theres some old school crap! Audiocontrol is pretty good, but like Phil is getting at, work with what you have first before thinking an EQ will solve all your problems
