Full Version: small, nice tweeter Amp??
Mobile Electronics Australia > Mobile Electronics Discussion > Sound Quality Discussion

Hi,
Iīm thinking about changing my tweeter amp and looking for something different  (Maybe something I donīt know yet)
Here in germany favourite SQ Amps are Sinfoni, Genesis, Audison, Brax...
Older ones are e.g amps of Audio Art (I like them wink.gif) follower are the new David Art (I love them!) But Iīm looking for a "unusual" (used) good sounding amp . At some US forums I read sometimes about ARC, Eclipse etc. In germany thes amps are totally unknown.
In a shortcut:
Do you know some fine (older) Amp-Brands I can look for??

Thanks,
Holger

What about e.g. the tube amps of US Amps?
Maz
Tru Technogies?

They popular in Germany? Because they are very high quality amps, very industrial looking.

Phoenix Gold Titanium series?
Pyroay
I use Phoneix Gold QX series (a few years old now) 2 x 50rms at 4ohm to run Morel Supremo's very nicely. I have a spare one from a few years ago that is BRAND NEW in box, in plastic (unmarked) with manuals etc looking for $180 for it if thats any use to you. They have a polished chrome look, pic below is the same series but a bigger model, mine is half the size.

The old Nakamichi's - pre 1995 would suite - provided you have an active xover or are usign passive units.

Also Udimension's old amps are sweet.

hehe only problem is the shipping to germany

Hey, thanks for response.
TRU is starting to get popular here, I love the clean, industrial design (and I like copper wink.gif) but they are very expensive
They look similar "Brax"-Amplifiers (www.audiotec-fischer.de) a "highend" make here in europe.
@Pyroay:
Thanks for offering,Iīll think... What is the Aus.$ right now? (to the US or to €īs?) I think redlined is right, shipping would be quite expensive.

@gooki: The source unit has all x-overs I need.

What about xtant amps, they are almost unknown in germany, are they a alternative for the tweeter?
or a phass? :hehe: (just kidding... think tooooooo expensive  )
Best wishes,
Holger, (itīs nordic for spear, lance..., they told me...?)

A TRU amp will destroy your tweeters, no question. Unless you get a A Class although that is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Brax is okay, although you need something small like a 2x30. Holger, try to find an Adcom amplifier, preferably with Class A design because this should work very well. Nearly all had low output and would be perfect for wht you want. With all amplifiers above 75w, VORSICHT! You may damage the tweeters.

For currency converter, use http://www.xe.net/currency

I've been looking at buying parts for my car from Deutschland, and shipping is very expensive, I own an Opel Corsa C. To ship an amplifier would cost about €60

Good luck Holger!!!
pingpong
what about one of those small genesis class A jobbies...

@ultim8DTM5:
Danke wink.gif For sure I have to take care of my tweeters... I know one, who has a STEG Masterstroke MSK3000 for his tweeters  (about 2x 400 W@ 4 Ohms) Thatīs weird!! I had for a Test a David Art DA15 Gold for the Tweeters, was great, but too expensive for me
Adcom, I know them, but just for Home Hifi...

@fuknutz2k: I listen to a lot of Genesis amps, they are great, but not my job... (also they are to common in germany :hehe:, you can see them at every corner...)

Best wishes,
viele Grüße,
Holger

PPI Art 300.2a

old and damn good, needs external xover

Hmmmmm Sinfoni (drools)..... I enquired into distribution of this brand early this year, but WAY too expensive, and would never sell in Australia.

Sounds like you have a couple of brands right on your doorstep like Audison and Sinfoni, so maybe just stick with them.
tupaki
Hi,
yep, we have a lot of good sounding brands here in germany/europe. But why donīt try something new? Something uncommon for german ears.
Itīs just interest, Iīd like to enhance my knowledge/experience in car hifi, so I hope for some new brands I still donīt know.
Another fact is, people are still reaching for something others donīt have, something individual Sinfoni is almost common and not unusual any longer in germany, the same with Genesis, Audison (which I donīt like)...

Sinfoni was too expensiv in Australia? What would be a price?? Canīt imagine, TRU, Phass, Milbert or something like that is what I call expensive...

Greetings,
Holger

What about McIntosh, Diamond Audio, Butler ?
tupaki
In know McIntosh amps- theīre great (and I like the design of the Source Unit wink.gif)
I know the name Butler, but never heard one of them.
And I never heard of Diamand Audio.

All three brands are not available in germany, whre can I get Infos?

Thanks,
Holger

There is one offical distributor/retailer of McIntosh in germany but they ain't cheap.

Then there's xetec:
http://www.xetec.de

But if you want the same kit but don't want to pay the price check out http://www.eaudio.co.nz/z4800.htm
They are more than happy to ship internationally.
Marc
One of my favorite amps. Valve Hybrid.

The D7 Amplifier Range is what you want to look at:

Then there's always the Milbert Tube Amps. The person i buy most of my Nakamichi gear from had one for sale. Price was around $999 USD inc shipping anywhere in the world.

If you are interested I can pass on his details to you.

out of curiosity, how much do Audison amps retail for in Germany?

tupaki
Thanks a lot! I will have a look at the links and recommendations.

The recommended retail price e.g. for a VRX 4.300.2 is 1200,-€

What about xtant amps?I like the Design and th edata sheets are interesting. Are they adviseble?

Holger
ultim8DTM5
Xtant are okay, they are owned by Mitek same group that has MTX and several other brands. The 1.1i has received rave reviews as a full-range, 100RMS monoblock perhaps a pair of these?

wow, there's not that much difference then. a VRX 4.300.2 RRP over here is about $2000, which is roughly EUR$1200 (1 EUR = AUD$1.7)

Hi, interesting. But itīs a class D. ( I forgot to mention, I donīt like class D amps  )
But I wil see, maybe a two channel or an older series of them?
(Two monoblocks would be a nice eycatcher in the co-driver floor )

So, time for 2. breakfast biggrin.gif
See you later...

How do you figure that one? :?
ultim8DTM5
Running Helix tweeters actively with no external crossovers, I wouldn't want to do it even with a 2.100.

But thats me I like to play it safe, grab some Helixs and prove me wrong smile.gif

I think that means he has crossovers wink.gif
tupaki
Yep, the Pioneer has Crossovers (=x-overs), admitting active usage (e.g Filter for tweeters adjustable form 1,6khz-10khz , 6-24db/oct)
tupaki
Hey,
things changed a little...
Think I will use the Amplifier I use up to now für the low/midrange speaker (Audio Art 200.2x, 2x 100rms @ 4Ohms) soon as tweeter amp. So I will need a powerfull 2ohm stable midrange amp (at least 300watts rms each channel at 2ohms) need more power.. :?
Does anybody now a good sounding powerful amp? (Preferred an older one excellent used amp...)
At the picture you see parts of current front amps and power supply(Sorry for bad quality):
