Hi Everyone,

I am just about to buy a new set of front stage speakers and want peoples opinions on the following:

Focal 165 KP2
Boston Z6
Morel Elate 6 (although I only really want a 2-way system)
Dynaudio 240GT

I have heard most of these speakers and basically all I want is people's opinions on what will have the highest power handling/ crisp top end/ good mid bass & sound okay in stock locations. Keeping in mind the budget is around $1200.00 I am open to suggestions.

I plan to run these speakers with an Audison LrX 2.500 unless someone can suggest something else.

Cheers,
Matt

the 165KP2's don't fit ni that group...
for $1200 you should be able to negotiate a set of focal 165W3's!!! (3 way splits)
it'll leave you spare on a set of 165W's anyway
that's a much fairer comparison against Z6's and the elates...

IMO you can't go wrong with any of those choices (except the 165KP2)
so it's down to personal choice...
the elates have good midbass, and a sweet, zippy tweeter
the 165W3's have a dry/smooth sound.
i haven't had alot of listening time with the Z6's but they sounded dry and a little bright up top.
the dyn's have a soft, smooth sound.

also consider the Eton Adventures, they're similar to the focal 165W3's.

see how many you can listen to, and compare them yourself.

your amp will run any of those splits nicely.
where are you located?

will the z6s fit in ur budget? or are u looking at them 2nd hand? because they retail for $2g i think
it depends on what kind of music your itno
id go focals if you were after "crisp highs"
jas
its not only which speakers you prefer but also how the install is going to be done

off axis in the kickpanels id look at focal products

on axis dyns are very nice

i assume the morels and bostons have their strong points too i just dont know what they are as of yet..anyone lend me some of these to try out :-)

Forget the Z6's if your budget is $1k unless you can get some sort of amazing deal.

If you've heard them as you say, then what is your opinion?
That's the one that matters.

Are you going to buy them for me or the other people here on these forums or for yourself? smile.gif

just following on the z6 thread, I talked to the retailer about acquiring a pair, and the wholesale price was $1400...

why don't you try and get a set of those dls iridiums (RRP $1400, and voted as the best SQ speaker of the year by the EISA) can't be too bad smile.gif

Hey guys,

Thanks for the advice! I am going to have a listen to on the weekend.

- A set of Z6's in a car (the ones which I can buy 2nd hand for under $1k)
- Focal Utopia 165W

And then I might check out these DLS splits if I can find them anywhere?

I am in Brisbane so if somone can point me in the right direction that would be great!

I think I like the way the Z6's are smooth and so intergrated between tweeter & midrange, although I still like the way the Focal's have the ability to play really crisp and high......

So I spose I will make up my mind after the weekend comes, so does everyone think that the 2.500 VrX will be enough to run these splits?

Also what sub and amp combo would you look into because I still love BIG bass although I like it clean and smooth. I was thinking of staying with the Audison amps and getting a pair of 1.400 VrX's and then maybe a pair of 12" Hertz HX300D's??

What other subs would you recommend which I could listen to in Brisbane.

Thanks in advance,
Matt

Have you thought about the Phoenix gold Ti elites? They're around your price range and are supposed to be alright...
Mr_Bob
you mean 1.400LRx, or 1.500 VRx?
the Hertz subs don't really do it for me, but they are good subs for the price...
what's your budget in the bass department?

Umm I am looking at the LrX400.1 probably 2, maybe 4 depending on the subs?

I have about $600-1000 to spend per sub what would you reccomend? I was going to either get the Hertz at $399.00 retail each and get 1 LrX400.1 and load down to 1 ohm but I think I will get 2x12's and 2x400.1

Some of the subs I have thought about:

Eclipse Ti 12"
IDQ Max
///Alpine X Type
Focal Polyglass 13"

Overall really not so sure on what to do because I still want big bass.

Cheers,
Matt

Well the splits are supposed to be very good. I have heard the Focals 3 way, and the Dyns but not the others. You can go to Northfield at Moorooka since they have a whole range of splits on the sound boards that you can listen to.

Also, for the sub i will suggest you to definitely have a look at the IDMax. Actually, if you are free on tuesday or thursday morning - mid afternoon you can have a listen to mine if you want. Also I cant remember exactly which model but Chris from there has 2 Eclipse subs in his car so you can probably listen to his too.

The Alpine TypeX isnt out yet, still have a couple of weeks wait.

Just see Brian (tongue.gif) /Drew/Chris and i am sure they will do you a great deal.
