just wondering how important a dead accurate enclosure volume is?

i know the more accurate the better, but would the difference be audible? obviously an enclosure ten times the size would be a difference, but im talking about slight differences, say 10% or something...

ive noticed particulary with some of the enclosures made out of fibleglass, that their volumes are approximatley the required size, but not dead set exact

just thought i would ask

how sensitive would a pair of JLWO's be?

thanks for your comments smile.gif

ported enclosure..yes definitely
sealed enclosure..yes but not as much

ported enclosures are built with accuracy for their port size and box size in mind so if u wander outside of manufacturers specs it will sound like ass

sealed enclosures..if its bigger the bass will have more of a booming effect therefore reducing the quality, if its smaller by a small margin you will get a better sound with no booming bass (to a small extent)

best thing i can suggest, if ur building a box stay as close to the manufacturers specs as possible..however if some figures are altered slightly you can make it sound completely different, in a good or bad way!!

hey some people love booming bass wink.gif

A small 10% discrepancy even for a ported enclosure generally will make little difference.

Sometimes, but if increasing your box size takes the box Q close to the ideal 0.707, then it will actually sound better

Yep, if you have to make it different, make it a bit bigger... all it will do is improve the volume of your output for a sealed box, and lower the tuning frequency for a ported box, which is almost never a bad thing smile.gif

Always remember, the Golden Rule of ported boxes is that there are no rules smile.gif Experiment and play around and see what suits your tastes, but in general most drivers sound better tuned low, between 25Hz and 35Hz, and a larger box is one of the easiest ways to accomplish that smile.gif

a good example is the enclosure i made a few days ago.

it was about 48L compared to manu spec of 55L, it sounded like ass...so back to the drawing board hehe.
