Full Version: Making The Call : SQL Woofers

Afternoon.

I'm coming down to my last 4 choices for the subs for my car... i've narrowed it down to the following, in order of least to most expensive :

• Digital Designs 3510d's
• Diamond Audio TDX 10"'s
• Adire Audio Brahma 10"s
• JL Audio 10W6's

Which of them do you think are the best SQ woofers? I will be building an ABC box to house them...

I was also interested in the Elemental Designs flat-cone drivers, but they ditched them this year for the more common conical cone sad.gif Does anyone know if theres anywhere you can still get the flat ED's?

I'm currently leaning towards the Brahma and TDX woofers, but i've seen firsthand the great results the 3510c series DD's give, so the 3510d's are a serious option too... the W6's i like, but they seem a little bit too pricey compared to the features and power handling of the others...

i have only heard the Brahma and W6 in a SQ setup, Diddent really like the w6 much,

the Brahma is absolutly awsome!

out of what you have chosen I can vouch for the brahma, havent heard the others in any decent set-ups so cant comment

No offense, but i dont like the 'Focal' sound, and the ID's look ass (my opinion tongue.gif )... they do have great output levels admittedly, but they just honestly do nothing for me sad.gif

Well I thoughly enjoyed my dd3510. Perfect if you like the invisible sub effect. ie not boomy, musical without sounding coloured, and lots of bass upfront feel (box was tuned to 28/29htz for a very nice flat response, 60htz low pass).

I haven't heard the others so can't comment? Why not get some Arvus subs? Or do they not have enough displacement for you?

Havent got the power handling i want, and the T/S parameters dont suit the types of boxes i want, or can fit in the boot

lol i thought they could engineer a sub with any t/s you'd want! hehe

i've heard the w6 and i liked it muchly. i've lived with and loved a brahma and i'd have one again any day. awe inspiring sub, but overkill IMO... you've gotta draw the line somewhere!

If you can get PPI PRO subs ... you will have no regret ....

Erm, they can, but they do have a base range... if i get them to completely custom me a sub it would be perfect, but the reality is it would cost a fortune, a with any high performance one off product... like seriously, their normal 10" sub is about $600, if i got one fully customed to my spec and power handling i dont think it would be much shy of $2000

Heh, i'm one of these people who gets a kick out of crossing drawn lines  Based on the US retail, theres no reason a Brahma should cost more than, say, a W6 or the like smile.gif
-DJ-
yeah may be no more than a w6.... but still lots of money! i mean, its such a narrow freq. band to cover. why spend so much on a driver to achieve it. i place much more importance on front stage and amps.

my next sub will be less than $500 cost or retail or somewhere inbetween. i've drawn my line there smile.gif

that rules out brahmas and w6s and idmaxs and what have you. IDQ seems like it'll get the nod, and thats got a $400 retail!.... but i'm still thinking.

Indeed, but i've already GOT some of the best fronts that money can buy  Yes, the sub only covers a narrow frequency band, but its still 2 full octaves, and if you have a look at what notes instruments etc play, there are quite a few down that low smile.gif

Besides, being a retailer, its always good to have my SQ wagon able to make some seriously loud bass if i so desire, so that i can impress the 17 year old basshead customers

IMHO the Brahma would be the pick of that list, the XBL^2 motor is the shiznit for SQL.

Everybody has their taste I guess but for mine the IDMAX looks the biz and is a seriously good SQL sub at a fair price in the scheme of things and would be my choice over the Brahma for its superior efficiency.
Less amp needed = kinder on your electrics.

Yeh, the Brahma's arent overly efficient, but i will have roughly 3500wRMS on tap to drive it, with 1/0AWG wiring and a dedicated Optima Yellotop, so the powering issue shouldnt be a major...

brahma or w7 might be the choice biggrin.gif
-DJ-
i think the w6 sounds better than the w7. but brahma or idmax would be my pick
