Full Version: Sub(s)/Enclosure for SQ

I've just bought a new car, sold my old sub/box, and i'm ready for a new project smile.gif

I listen to mainly metal, and i'm wondering what kind of sub/box setup would best suit this with SQ in mind. At the moment i have a coustic amp which can output 2 x 240wrms, so i could either run 2 subs with this each or a single dual coil sub with 480wrms.

I'm looking at building a ported enclosure, and have about 130L of space to work with total. Price is not really an issue, but i'm looking at spending under $700 for the sub(s). I'll be building the box myself, so box price is negligable.

So i'm thinking...2 x 10in? 2 x 12in? 1 x 12in?
I've heard its better to get one better quality sub over 2 lower quality ones, but for metal is one 12 going to sound as good as 2 10s?

With the $700 limit in mind, can anyone recommend some good subs for my requirements? I've had experience with JL subs, and was happy with the sound, and can get 2 JL 10w3V2's for around $700.

Gentlemen...start your engines :hehe:

Thanks

Well 2 10" have about the combined surface area of a 15" but dosen't mean they will give more bass or sound better than a 12" they might match your fronts better if they are 6" but it wouldn't be much different between the 2 really.

In my opinion get 1 good 12" because seriously you might be able to do some barging and get a IDMax or on of the new range of Bostons and perhaps a Alpine Type-X (Both of which Im still to listen to but should be very nice) when they hit the selves, all of these are about $899rrp so with some barging and a lil extra cash you could probally get a very nice sub.

what do people think of the eclipse 7xxx and 8xxx series?

Main concern is how it would go off 480 watts, as the guy at northfield said they are pretty power hungry.
