I need help
I need some help in choosing my next front stage speakers, as i said in my subject i am thinking of either Focal, DLS, Dynaudio or JL audio ZR series. I have heard some lower focals and dls and liked the sound of them but i havent heard any dyn or jl.
I was after some advice of which pair would be good as a pair of 6.5" 2 ways splits. Anyone who has heard any or all of the speakers, please let me know what you thought of them.
I have access to cheap jl splits but as i havent heard any or know of anyone who has the upper range jl's in their car, o i am a bit hesitant to buy them straight out without hearing them.
Any or all help would be appreciated
cheers

I would suggest visiting Ange at Complete in Tea Tree Gully and having a listen to some 240's. I think they have them both in a car and in the board. Only once you have heard can you decide.

IMO the Dyns would have to be the way to go.
But as Hutch said you have to hear them to make the right choice.
I am also of the opinion that JL aren't in the same league as Dyn or most of the Focals.

Yeah i didnt think that about the JL either but i have seen a set of the zr splits and they look (thats all i can go by as i dont know anyone who has any!) the zr series seem pretty good but will have to see

It's all about the listening.
My first thought would be the Dyn's off that list, but....
The JL Audio old school Mini demo car was voted best sounding car at this year's Vegas CES and used the ZRs.
Never heard them away from Doran's demo board but they must do something right! (when installed properly)

It was a great sounding car and one of only about three that it wasn't impossible to have a listen to.

i think the problem with the JL's is everyone puts them in the MTX/RF/SS/Kicker basket cause they come from a brand thats more known for there subs and now amps.
i wouldent rule them out, the only place here im melb i know that would sell them is JB and i doubt they would have them on the bord to listen to and even if they did i doubt they would be set up properly.
i dont know of any other shop that would but i personly wouldent mind getting a listen. even better if they were in a car....

the jl's are a great speaker, if they suit your tastes...
i love my dyn's and it'd take an extraordinary speaker to make me swap them out for something else, but i've heard the jl's well set-up and well driven (a jl 300/4 and alpine 7949) and it was really REALLY a very listenable system... something i would've been proud to own. you only have to look at the rep jl splits (let alone subs and amps) stateside to believe they are a very capable speaker. nearly every year jl has component sets wind-up in IASCA/USACi finals... in my opinion, they'd have no problem fighting alongside the focals (and out-do them in some areas). the dyn's are a very different speaker and they're in a different class altogether. as such i don't really think they can be compared.
your best bet would be to listen to all the speakers for yourself and make a decision only then.
