Afternoon Boys and Gurls,
As the topic says, is this necessary and what are the real life benefits of doing so? I remember reading a post about this a while ago, but the search function has unfortunately let me down!
The horns in question are the Image Dynamics CD-2COMP HLCD and a little speal about them can be found here:
http://www.imagedynamicsusa.com/website/pr...ucts/horns.html
They are the classic model (not the mini-horn which would make the install much easier!) so obviously I don't have alot of room to be mucking around with.
I know a couple of you guys out there are running horns so your input is most welcome!
Thanks in advance

i believed the benefits were to damp resonances and in horns, apparently, its a vital part of the installation process.
marc recently deadened his veritas front stage so perhaps he can help you out more

Yeah I saw the pics of Marc's install, and I also know that there are a couple of other guys who run ID Horns, so was hoping that they would pass on some wisdom!

ID horns do not require sound deadening as they made from a composite material that is already very inert. The veritas is made from cast alloy and as such does have some resonant modes that can be alleviated to some extent by sound deadening material applied to the outside of the horn body.

I know alot of horn users, line their horns with pool table felt for a smoother sound, might be an option too??

I think Hutch is on the money. Angelo lined his horns on outside and they were veritas horns. The same with the set I had. Thye had an issue around 1K I beleive but wether urs would is another issue. Marc mentioned to me he could tell any difference after doing his.
I guess its the aluminium as Hutch points out, and so makes sense u wont have an issue with urs. The IDs I have played with definatly needed EQ but not from resonance issues just because they were peaky at certain freqs. The pool cloth idea sounds cool but have never seen it or more importantly heard it

Thanks to all who replied! Makes sense really with the horn mouth being made of a dense composit, I was wondering why you would further need to deaden them! But is good to know.
Might hold off on the pool felt until I have installed them and heard them; that way if they sound like bum then there is something left to be changed.
Cyberpunky: Will be running them through 2 (L&R) EQT's so hopfeully that will give me enough control!
Thanks again
~Steve

I have the Veritas (aluminium cast) horns and yeah, I heard absolutely no difference between them deadened and normal ?

lol, thanks marc for that! And if you guys can't hear the difference then chances are I am not going to either (and it may just save me the mm's I need to squeeze them in!)
DJ - no probs mate, will give you a cruise sometime when it is all done! But that might not be till the Nats! The boot install started to get serious last weekend but a lot of work before it gets "shown off"
Cheers

The Veritas horns do ring around 1000hz .DO A SWEEP and you will hear it. Put a gee clamp in the middle 2 inches in and tighten an you will see it dissappere. I WELDED a 10mm rode to connect the top to the bottom. AND **** loads of my dampening compound. iF YOU DON'T BELIEVE ME play MARIAH CARRIE.
