hi well im after a box for my 3512c which will be in my n14 and run off a dei2400, and well im out of spl for awhile and still want some bass in the car but dont want the spl setup as it sounds crap for music.
so am after some box designs measurements for a good sounding box with my setup, i mainly listen to top40 and r&b and some dance(skitz mix) and well a bit of everything really.
thanx.

I'd go 2 cubes.
Tuning depends on the location of the sub/port and the transfer function of the car.
That's the real beauty of a ported box, you can contour it's output to match the TF of the car.
You need to build a design that can be varied from 30-45Hz for testing. Only then will you find the perfect "tune".
Remember, most "box design" programs show the "normalised amplitude response" ie what the box will sound like in the middle of a football field.
Also with any high output subwoofer, it's important to have enough midbass etc to keep up. Bass "notes" go as high as 300Hz, if you only have huge energy below 80Hz then your bass will sound "flat" or "muddy".
An un-balanced system will always sound bad.

Sorry guys i dissagree . IN SQ WHAT ever box you make will Always be different when put in the confines of a car. R the windows un / down ? THE ONLY WAY is to mechanically damp the speakers and even electronically control them FULL STOP ! Use an ap matt.

Nice suggestion Angelo, but how about something more practical for those who either don't know what AP mats are, can't make them themselves, or don't want the head scratching involved with their unique fitment.
Blanket statements are great - except when they don't help the person asking the question.

Hi Damon TRUE just came on line and don't know where car audio has moved. (STILL IN WITCH CRAFT TERRITORY ? ) . I'll be happy to explain to anyone who wants to know before they needlessly spend lots of cash and still are not happy with the results.

How about an explanation for SSS_Hoon about where he can buy an AP mat (or how to make one - better still!), which version he should choose for his woofer, and how its application can be done to an N14 SSS Pulsar hatchback?
Then maybe some guide as to its benefit over sealed and ported boxes for sound quality applications and the possible trade-offs. Few people on CAA have had the benefit of knowledge about aperiodic membranes and you sound like the perfect candidate to enlighten them.

yeah thanx damon that would be god if he could do that.
all help appreciated.
i have it at 2cubes which is from the dd rep so that should be right, does the actual shape of the box make any difference or is it just the volume of it?
sorry for all the q's its just that i just getting into the sq side of things.

I will admit that I know virtually nothing about AP enclosures, but I do know that Hutch distributes some and I know Tuneman has played with some AP mats before, or at least he said he was going to with a DD9515...

The shape of the box doesn't really matter with sub bass.
Some facts in regards to AP mats.. An AP mat has a unique feature - it actually increases the mechanical damping of the driver, that is it lowers the Qms. So it can be handy if you have an under motored driver, or underdamped suspension. But these days, it isn't really all that necessary and it won't make a huge difference anyway. The 3512s don't require terribly large enclosures and a moderately sized sealed enclosure will certainly have adequate damping - a suitably low Qtc.
