Full Version: digital x-over or not?

I have a digital EQ, running only the front splits at the mo.

separate RCA's for the rear and sub. connections.

my question:
Is it worth while (from SQ point of view) to run digital out from the EQ into a digital crossover for the front, subs and rear channels, or will the H/U's built in sub & fader control be adequate?

I have:
DEH-P9650 H/U, 3 pairs RCA out
6.5" splits front and rear, 65WRMS ea, front x-over 63Hz, 12dB, rear X-over 130Hz faded low, fronts via EQ (DEQ2496 dual 31 band)
2x 10" subs 150WRMS each, x-over 63Hz, 18dB
2x 4ch amps, 1 bridged as 2ch for subs.

I am not considering buying amps or speakers at this stage, only whether to do the x-over in the H/U or externally, via e.g. DCX2496 (2-in, 6-out, fully programmable)

any suggestions in line with above appreciated

If you are going anologue into EQ then I wouldnt bother...if your going digital in then it wont hurt to stay digital into crossover as doing stuff in digital domain wont add noise and while your there. may as well stay there.

Anyway sounds like ur going via RCAs into and so Id stick with HU x/over or amps x/over. I wouldnt bother with dig x/over but it wont hurt if you did. Any SQ advantage would be small to non existent but in sq paying attention to the little things is whats its often about
