My installer offers me a DA Tube Pre-Amp to improve the sound quality. As i never had any pre-amps and I have no idea what pre-amp is, will anyone tell me anything about pre-amp? Anybody heard DA before? Is it necessary to have one?

Cheers

VEry nice. Very warm! A pre amp is basically a device that creates gain between your source unit and your amplification. Depending on the specsw of the pre amp you will find that these DA's are capable of putting out very high line voltages thus reducing your noise floor in your setup and creating nothing but nice, nice music..... wink.gif

So you are saying that it is worth buying?

Pre amp can mean a number of things.
X-over, EQ, Line Driver etc
Find out what he is talking about first, sounds like a line driver to me.

Find out the model Henry and let me know and yes it possibly is a Line Driver, but Yes, it is still worth buying if you have someone who is completely able to set it up

If its a tube preamp, its basically a tube filter to try and warm the sound. Might raise voltage as well.

I'll find out the model number tonite and let you know tomorrow morning... BTW, do you know the DA official website? Been looking around the web but didn't get lucky...

I'm using Denon DCT-1 headunit and Tru Tech T03 amplifier. Do i still need the DA tube pre-amp??? Does pre-amp make ALOT changes in SQ???

Its does make a different in SQ. I am using one too, but its a Rammaudio Tube preamp it a excellent unit. Its addictive sutrisno. But have a listen to it first, some tube preamp has just too much 2nd hamonic distortion. And the tube in it is very important too.

I went through the pre-amp last nite and we found out that using the pre-amp need to sacrifice the 24bit processor that came standard in Denon DCT1... unless i'm using the 1 bit headunit, the pre-amp might decrease the sound quality... don't know if it is true or not... if i have time, i'll install the DA pre-amp tonight and see if it is true

BTW, with the DA pre-amp, i'm no longer able to adjust the volume from the headunit... everything is done by the pre-amp... the DA pre-amp is a one din unit... the same size as headunit...

I don't get it. You mean you are not using RCA out from your Denon DCT1 to the Preamp?

So your DA preamp is a digital analoge converter and is power by tube?

I'm not sure yet, but i'll let you know after the test tonight...
