ok the car is a 99 magna
system 7843e hu
infinity ref 6x9s
mb quart 6.5 discus split tweeter monted upon the dash
2 x orion xtr3 dvc 12" subs not sure how there wired up but
are in a sealed box pointing into the cabin
alpine v12 amp 4ch
orion 225 hcca amp
boss 2 farad cap
4 gauge pwr kit unknown brand

well its not a bad sound fairly loud and tight iam not entirely happy with it
i find i need better sq and a touch louder

what do i look at in regards to changing or tunning and obviously in changing the system what would be the most benificial to change

budget is ofcourse an issue but not to be fixed price as to take into account all options

thanks for looking and questions will be answered to enable a more detailed description if required

My advice would be to move your tweeters, as MBs tend to be fairly aggressive and having them on dash wont help this at all.

Id sell the cap as its a waste of money and could give you a few dollars to throw at something else in your system.

If you want it louder you will need more power or to configure your system diferently. You could for example run your rear fill off HU and then bridge amp to run fronts, if your not already.

anyway you havent really stated what you dont like aboout it. If you dont like the sound then you need to either move speakers or get ones you do like. if you want it louder and your speakers can take more power, then you need to give them more.

The only other thing Id suggest is to swap your fuse holder over if its a no name, to a stinger PG etc as it may be resistive and so effecting the power available and a quality one wont have that problem

Ok thanks for your thoughts

yes the tweeters arnt to bad i think they are about 18mm rather than 25 which i think would be better and iam thinking that you maybe right in moving them down but i wonder what will it do to the staging ?

The sound is good tight sound if you know what i mean this is what i like

I guess this is a question of opinion rather than fact and its impossible to tell you what it sounds like but i think you have put me on the right track some more power will help drive the speakers just that bit better

I will also look at the crossovers etc as i might be loosing some part of the spectrum , but i havent put my finger on it yet

thanks for you thoughts

any other opinions would be appreciated

where are the mids mounted in the front?
If they're in the doors, you may have cancellation problems.

also, sometimes the subs cancel with the fronts near the x-over frequency - try changing the polarity of the subs (if the crossover is in the HU it should give the option).

my subs are crossed over at 63Hz, and the cancellation frequency is 67 Hz, so I reverse-phase the subs and all is sweet,

how did you work out that?
Pulse-R
two ways to determine sub cancellation near x-over freq.:

1. by observation, If I stuck my head near the windscreen, I got more bass than sitting in the seat. you can also observe this in a loungeroom where the sub is firing out of phase with the fronts, the off-axis bass near the telly appears louder than in the centre of the room.

2. by calculation, measuring the distance from the subs' axis to the fronts' axis, and calculating the resonant frequency of the distance, then divide by two (cancellation is when front max signal meets rear minimum signal) to get the frequency.

- reverse phase on sub fixed that - smooth all over now.
