Hi guys,
I've had this head unit for a while, and had a play with the delay and parametric eq settings, but I got to a point where I was just making things sound worse, so I went back to no time alignment, and no equalisation. I have however got my levels pretty much spot on for the front, rears and sub. I have the front and rears on a 80Hz high pass (I have the choice of 50/80/120Hz on the HU). It definately needs equalisation to smooth out some issues with harsh treble, and hopefully more mid bass.
Now what, where do I start? My parametric eq gives 3 "bands" to play with for the front, and 3 for rear. Each band has a choice of frequency, q, and of course gain. The problem is I don't have the experience to know what freq i'm hearing problems with etc.
Would it be wise to make a test cd of tones, and using this get the response as close to flat as possible then tweak from there? Is there a cd i can get that will help me track down problem frequencies?
Also whats the best way to start tuning the time alignment? So far I have measured the distances from each speaker's sound path to my ear position which gave decent results, but are there general "rules of thumb" for adding more/less delay to say the rears or sub for example?
FYI this is what I'm running, in a 88 LD Astra / N13 Pulsar hatchback:
4inch Clarion dual cones up front off the HU, ie original factory ones =(
6inch 2way pioneers with horn tweeters on a very solid custom rear shelf getting 35rms each
12inch Shiva in sealed 1cubicfoot box running on 2x35rms bridged @ 4ohm
4x35rms alpine V12 amp.
All my levels are pretty much spot on, with only minor adjustments needed to the sub level gain on HU depending on the recording.
