just lookin for a cheaper h/u that has some good sq properties (not features) i heard jvc is good value .. i've never used head units before i was more into using line output convertors but my factory one creates to much noise so i'm going to try an aftermarket h/u. i like the clean designs of CLARION so i'd like to use their stuff (looks very factory) also VDO if i remember correctly is LOW on the BLING.

I know that most people are going to flame me for saying this.........

Sony. You could get a Sony FX5700. It has a built in front, rear, sub RCA out. Built in EQ etc.

I know some people think Sony is average for SQ, but I ran a Sony Headunit all last year, and it was great.

Also, the FX5700 retails for $599, but they can be had for around $300.biggrin.gif

vdo are low on bling, but they also dont have a whole heap of sq features in their low-end gear, generally only preset sound modes (rock, pop, jazz, flat, classical)
vdo DAYTON on the other hand, are fairly stacked with bling like vaccuum displays, speed dependant volume, park distance control interface, car computer, etc...
but also have good sq features, like auto/manual eq, digital sound processing, sub out, 4v pre-outs, etc

by "i want a good sq deck at low cost", i take it u mean u want a unit with good eq features, high pre-out voltages and *possibly* time alignment...without paying extra for things like fancy displays, motorized faces, voice control, aux in, etc.????

low end jvc and panasonic are good choices then at good prices. i dont know about sony, i wouldnt think alpine (i would imagine too pricey for you), pioneer are ok as are clarion, but i think jvc and panasonic offer the best in terms of what ur after

Ive got a Clarion, Bit of a fan of the Clarion decks, my Gf's also got one, its a lower model MP3 one than mine but they do a nice job and as you said they look fairly factory if you go for the lower priced models.
She only paid $220 for it and for the price i couldnt fault it, depends how much you want to spend.
