hi, got me a typex 12'' and will run it off my alpine mrdm1001. any one had any experiences with these subs? wot typ of box will suit sq? size? which way to mount sub? any tips on amp config(lots of F@#kin settings). is this sub suited more for sq or spl? for i am aiming for quality.any help would be appreciated.Cheers

do you have the thiele-small specs (in the manual) for the sub? these are required to use box-design software to see what kinda box suits:
*Fs (Hz)
*Qts
*Vas (L or cuft)

tuning the amp will depend on the sub, car, rest of the stereo, so hard to guess what's best for you. but the 'gain/sensitivity' and 'lowpass filter' are the 2 important settings to get right (refer to the tute in the Beginner subforum), the rest is for fancy, schmancy fine tuning and not essential. but start with the basic ones once it's up and running, then question the others later. you could always have the shop you bought it from help advise you.

download WinISD beta rather than WinISD Pro. i find it more userfriendly. these are but one choice in a number of programmes.

i figure you've never used such software before, which makes me wonder if you know what you're 'looking at' and 'aiming for'. which is why we are quite happy to give you some box suggestions. mind you, it's good to learn and see where we're coming from.

If you are after quality then I'd go for a reasonably small sealed box. I've heard the X in ported and sealed boxes. Ported went VERY loud, but lost a little detail. Keep in mind, off the 1001, it will still go quite loud.

The Fs is high for a sealed box woofer, the Qts too high ie underdamped for a ported box woofer.

The ppl with Winisd ready to go can tell you the Qtc 0.7-1.0 Box sizes.

from those specs, i'd suggest 1.5~2.0cuft (42~56L) 'sealed' to be ideal in the car.

in the 'Installation Techniques' forum there is a 'box calculator' in one of the 'stickied' thread up top. download this to assist in designing the dimensions. it boils down to basic maths, and obviously needs to suit the dimensions of your boot.
