Hi there
I am purchasing Focal Utopia's 136W components for my doors and am thinking of going for the Audison LRX 2.500 or the 2.250 to push them. Later on once I save up more money I think I will go for one 13" Polyglass or 13" k2 sub and either a Zapco amp or another Audison to push it (if I can save up the cash). Currently I have two 12" Alpine VR subs (approx 8 yrs old) and a 300w 2channel Alpine amp pushing them. I am planning on leaving the two 12" subs in untill I can save up for the Focal 13" sub. I just want a nice sounding system to enjoy for myself not to go into any competitions or anything. Will this be a good system, any ways to improve. Any opinions are greatly appreciated, should I go for the 2.250 or the 2.500?
Thanks for your time!

if you can afford the more powerful amp, go for it. but the 2.250 will otherwise be adequate.

'installation' and 'tuning' will be key elements to focus on. i've heard cheap gear sound great when installed well, and expensive stuff sound average. so things like solid door pods, extensive sound deadening and sealing the doors are very important. research the topics on this site.

good luck. smile.gif

Exactly right.

Interesting to see how the exact same front splits (Boston Pro's 6's) got rather different scores in T's car, and BOCKY's car. So yesterday I learnt that components do not always make up the full picture... the acoustics of the car and positioning of the speaker can make a huge difference, even though both cars have had many hours spent fine-tuning it. It could also be a reflection of the different amplifiers being used to run the speakers.

Lots of factors!
But yeah your components do sound nice smile.gif

quality components - wish I had your budget :hehe: but as the others have said - don't skimp on the install

I was gonna buy Focal Polyglass components, but 1 of my friends purchased the Utopia's for his car, but got into an accident before even intalling them and needed money so I got them for a pretty good price. I was checking out some brand new Zapco amps on ebay and they seem to have some for some good prices, but I've heard alot about Audison and want to try to get the best amp I can to help make these speakers sound their best. There's a local shop where I am going to get them installed, they are a authorized focal dealer and one of the guys that works there has some polyglass components in his SUV that he let me hear. I was pretty impressed with their sound. He said that they will make a bracket out of wood so the components will fit in properly as I believe it is 4x6's that are in the door now. Then they will dynamatt it and seal it or vice versa. Does this sound correct? Anything else they should do? Any opinions on what sub to get? I like the sound of the Polyglass 13" but haven't really heard many of the other brands. I do like quite a bit of bass but only want 1 sub as I'd like to have some usable trunk space.
Anyways thanks alot for taking your time to help me out, I'll read as many posts as I can,
Thanks,
Brent

Sounds like the store you're going to knows what they're doing, which is good! Basically he's installing spacers so you can fit bigger speakers, and is properly sealing the doors to get optimum midbass.

And in regards to Zapco/Audison, both are brilliant brands, if I had the money to spend on more amps I would definitely be tempted to upgrade to Zapco (and I own Audison, the SRx series). IMHO I'd say the Zapco's have the ability to be better than the LRx series Audison's since you can utilise that unique Zapco technology - SymbiLink. But the difference will probably be unnoticable, they're both great brands as stated.

And I wouldn't buy anything over $300 off eBay, but that's your risk! :thumb:

Thanks Stazed I'm glad it sounds like they will install them correctly. Does Zapco still make amps? Someone told me they got bought out (sorry if this is old news, used to be into car audio about 7 yrs ago and then got out of it, but getting very interested in it again). Thats why I was checking ebay for Zapco, but was probably gonna go for the Audison as I would purchase it brand new from the install shop.
Thanks,
Brent

I'm not from Australiz but I have been checking out alot of other forums and posting questions. This site seems to have the most info on it and people actually reply to my questions, so this by far is the best forum I've found on the web.

Sorry don't mind my spelling of Australia. I'm watching Viva la bam at like 1:30 in the morning and starting to fall asleep.

Well, that's AUD pricing, not sure on the exchange rate smile.gif
And also not sure who could supply for you!

Maybe try U.S. stores if you can't find a Canadian supplier.

CAD is similar to AUD, about 5c in the dollar.

Zapco still make amps, infact they just released a line of speakers

I'm gonna try calling around to some local shops and see if they carry Zapco, one of them must. Thanks for the info.
