please help me.....................

I'm about to buy a sub for SQ, which one is better DD3515 or Cliff Design CD12
I'm going to amp it with 400RMS@2ohm or 500RMS@1ohm

they both RRP around $900, DD's got more RMS handling 1000, Cliff has only 600RMS

Both subs are design to pump hard, for SQ or SPL, which is very confusing

DD used chunnky rubber, Cliff used foam

they both very heavy in weight

if anyone of you guys knows, please give me advice on which one to buy
thanks a lot

BIG THANKS

Our 3515 has a strong competition heritage and the new "d" model is receiving accolades in the SQ arena.

Look for the upcoming issue of Car Audio & Electronics. Our 3510 is compared with the IDmax 10", JL 10W6 and Rockford T2-10".

Our 3510 acheived the highest score of the bunch!

Here's a few quotes from the article:

"neither of them (JL/ID) could match the output and low-frequency extension" (of the DD and RF)

"Digital Designs edged out the Rockford Fosgate for the strongest output of the group"

"The Digital Designs 3510d and Rockford Fosgate T210D4 turned in very similar performances, which is particularly impressive for the 3510d considering its price"

"the Digital Designs handled the nuances a bit better"

"The bass synthesizer was reproduced deep and tight with the 10W6v2 as well as the IDMax10D4 V.4, but the 3510d and T210D4 really moved some air to make you feel the bass in addition to hearing it"

Why those 2? Why the choice?
Why not consider IDMAX or Brahma or my choice RE XXX - or a lower RE model (and save some cash?)......
After using the RE XXX 12" for about 5 months (is it 6 now?!) i gotta say it's an AWESOME sub for pure SQ it is VERY clear..... i love it to death and can't see why i'd EVER sell it

I'd love to have IDMAX, but my wallet say no no no, you have only 400 cash mate, so I can only buy second hand Clif design or DD3515, yeh even second hand IDmax was still around $550,and highly WANTED, I never had a chance to compete, Im only a student with very little money:(, cant afford that much unfortunately

im no expert , but IMO with the power you have you would probably get a tighter sound out of the CD . Your amp is much better suited to that than the DD . As far as wich sub is better , i personnaly wouldnt know but they both seem to have very good reputations so .... i dont think it will sound crap either way smile.gif

maybe weigh up the box requirements for each. do you know what they require, will you DIY or pay for a custom one, and will it fit into your car (without sacrificing too much space/weight)?

How do you arrive at that conclusion? How does amp power affect "tightness"?

The 3515 will handle 1600Wrms, but it will run just fine (loud and clean) off 400/500W.

The RE is probably within your price range (not the XXX just the standard model) and would do well alongside that competition.
Stooge said it right - your ears should decide so go and demo some stuff. Go to a state meet, visit some sponsor's stores and let your ears in on the discussion.

There isn't much point buying a middle of the road sub purely on reputation in my opinion.

phil (or anyone), what's a good SQ box requirement for the 3515? i can't imagine it really small. tongue.gif

maybe tightness isnt the right expression , to my knowledge it is best to give a speaker as close to its power handling as you can . given this the cd would be running closest to its peak with the given amp . im not say one is better than the other . all im saying is if i where in the same situation i would rather get a sub that matched my output . and mine is a totally UNbiased opinion .

1. As small as 2.5 cubes works really well.

2. More power means more output, not more clarity.

that's smaller than i expect, cool.

thanks. hopefully that still isn't too big for 'diancuk'.

You can fit 2.5 in nearly anything. smile.gif

that's true, but it may not always suit in terms of loss of bootspace or if there's other stuff in there. i know i couldn't fit a 2.5cuft enclosure into my boot without major compromise due to all the other gear in it including the spare wheel.
