hey guys im new to this forum so sorry if this is posted in the wrong area.... i have an alpine cda9807 headunit with boston acustic 6.5" splits and a jbl gt4 12" sub.... running of a very average 4 by 100 akai amp.... im getting a v net amp given to me for free of a friend and i was looking to buy a second sub (gt4 12")...is it poosible to run the two subs of the seperate amps (one of each) because they are splits amps and only the rears can be low passed

any suggestions or opinions at all are greatly welcomed

cheers
Tiger
Welcome aboard dude :thumb:

Is the Vnet amp you're getting a 2 channel? If it is, I'm thinking to run the splits off the Vnet amp and the 2 JBL 12s off the 4 channel.
If you try running one sub off one amp and another sub off a completely different spec amp, they just won't work.... well, together anyway, they'd be in a mind of their own.
I'm thinking shiny_car's going to look into this thread any second now and I'll let him do all the technical talk tongue.gif

Hope my suggestion was of SOME use

not a good idea, in short it will sound s**t. two different amps will produce different amounts of power, different efficiencies, etc. therefore each sub will be running under different circumstances therefore not sounding the same, which returns to my point of them sounding like s**t.

i am sure shiny will suggest a better way to set them up.
take it away shiny...

hahahaha!
Love how we are all referring this one over to shiny!
He better come here soon and not make a fool out of us! tongue.gif

cheers guys thats what i thought ... the vnet is a 4 channel and the other amp is a 4channel but i cant low pass all the channels on either amp ... front two chanels on both only allow mid to high pass ...

any suggestions on a setup then cause im going to use the stock speakers at the back for rear fill but have no idea what the best setup would be ....

its a vx commodore btw if that helps

lalala *wander in* oh look, someone's talking about me. ohmy.gif

the 9807 has 3 preouts. i'm not 100% sure, but the subout may already have in inbuilt LP filter in the HU, so only subbass is sent to any amp hooked up to the subouts, and you don't have to rely on the amp's filters.

maybe ring alpine to confirm.

if not, you can buy a cheap external LP filter:

http://www1.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?...eMax=&SUBCATID=

i cannot vouch for the quality or performance of the jaycar one, but if it works well (no reason not to), it'll do the job for you. and leave all the filters on the amp for the sub to 'off/fullrange' and let this external one do the filtering.

ok cool yeah the head unit has a sub preout as well as a front and rear .... i didnt realise the sub preout does that much.... ive been low passing for my sub through the amp .... so if i run the front preouts on the amp for the second sub through the sub preout it will work :?
shiny_car
as i say, i'm not 100% there's a LP filter 'attached' to the sub preouts on the HU. so ring alpine to confirm. either a local retailer or the Melb office: 03 9769 0000

if there's no LP on the sub output, then use an external one.

so yes, hook up one sub output to ch.1-2 and the other to ch.3-4 on the amp (whichever one you choose to use for the subs).

hahah f**k ive got to be up in 4 1/2 hours for work lol
ill ring alpine tommorow from work and let you know about the sub preout on the head unit ... will it say in the instruction book cause i still have that
paulio
hey guys i havent had time to ring alpine yet but i was talking to a mate of mine (hes an audio engineer) and he said just save yourself the time and hassle and just hook the external filter on anyways ...

will this screw the sound over if there is a low pass filter on the head unit sub preout or not???
